Why do you have to buy food on a domestic flight and rather provide a meal? |
My sister went on American Airlines and we all wonder why they rather not provide a meal, and why buy food? Answers??? |

Shorter flights don't usually have meals. Depends on the airline tho. I would buy food if I was hungry. Otherwise I can go without for a few hours or so. |

I typically fly first class. We always get meals as long as the flight is over two hours, and I fly American a lot. I don't understand what the problem was on your flight. |

i remember the days when all airlines offered food on their domestic flight
but they dont anymore because its a way to keep the price of tickets cheap.
i was on an usair flight the other day and i had to pay for a what they call a snack box.
its just the way of life now i guess |

well when i went southwest airlines from philly to cancun i got kind of a dinky little breakfast that didn't taste very good, and they offered hardly any drinks, and we were paying 189 dollars for this flight, so i can c where you are coming from, yea that is total b/s. |

The shorter flights don't normally have meals. With the longer flights, they are trying to cut costs and make a profit.
Another thing they are doing to try to make a profit is to charge for checked bag #2, and charge more for baggage over 50 lbs. Overweight used to be over 75 lbs. |

Pure economics the food costs money
people want cheaper airfare tickets
Airline must cut cost so they cut out the food
Now they make money off you from the food you buy on the flight which equals reduced costs and increased revenue. |

Consumers tend to pick their airline tickets by price--- just check Yahoo Answers and see how many people are asking about how to get the cheapest airfare. Frequent fliers tend to be loyal to a particular airline but the general traveller will just go with whatever is cheapest. And airlines do not make a lot of money (unless you are the CEO). So if they want to stay in business AND people won't pay more for the tickets, they have to cut costs. Services like meals are always the first thing to go. You'll also find flights where they do not offer blankets or pillows, or have only half of the inflight magazines, so they don't have to spend the fuel to transport those things. |

Because it keeps their prices down and means they can offer you the flight slightly cheaper overall.
It's like here (in Australia) I can fly Qantas for about $30 more per flight and get food and movies, or I can fly Virgin and get none of that.
It depends on the airline and each makes decisions like that on their own. |

.yes that true I know United Airlines hardly offer food unless longer flights or even internationl flights are not offering food becaus they are so tight with money. yes, if you can eat a lot of food before take off than go for it. some airports have high quality food San Francisco International Airort at the international got the finest restaurants while waitinf for your flight. Seattle airport is really nice free wireless internet access there even without starbuck. your best best to get a red eyes flight so you can sleep and not owrry about waitng for food so you can sleep the whole time during your flight depend your destination. five hours yes you will need food if you fly day time but if you do the red eyes flight at night than you can go without food because you will be sleeping just besure to get a big dinner before boarding the flight if it domestic flight International flights I would look for other internatinal that not american airlines, United airlines or delta airlines. it best to go witht he international airlines for exampe i recommend Japan Airines, Singapore Airlines, Virgin Alantic Airlines. forget british airlines I heard negatives feedback about british airlines KLM is excellent for european flight as well as lufutanasa. OH yes one more asian flight is Asiana Airlines are the BEST the flight attendence are always smilingand food is awesome you can get delicious korean meal. if you plan to fly on US flights i would thick with American West or Jetblue or even southwest airlines still good due to good fares and alaska airlines is good choice too they hav good food for flight more than two hours i think. yes so stay away from AA UL AND DL those three are having probles since 911 except it was not delta airlines. Aloha Airlines have good food they serve one cookies and milk I wantot try ATA so I will go on ata next journey trip to hawaii out of oakland. that all I have for now. if you have any more question feel free to email me bayareaman1972@yahoo.com Matt |

YES THIS IS FLAPPYJACKS MCGEE.
THEY DO THIS BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT PEOPLE BRINGING FOOD THAT MAY THREATEN THE FLIGHT SUCH AS AN EXPLODING BLUEBERRY PIE OR A EXPLOSIVE CHICKEN. |
