if you dont want to book a holiday, consider that there's only been 3 plane since august, compare that to god knows how many car crashes.
its just exaggerated because they dont happen all that often |

I think it wasn't as bad as before. It was just sensationalized with that plane than crash landed at the Hudson river. That's why people or news makers are so keen on reporting those. |

I guess its because so many people travel by air these days... and the media covers everything that does happen... don't let that stop you though |

If if makes you feel any better, compared to the number of flights that occur each day the amount of crashes is very small indeed.
Plus, they tend to be domestic small planes that crash...
I haven't heard of any BA or Virgin or any other major airline having a crash with deaths ever, so fly with a company you trust.
In reality, you are much more likely to die while driving your car or walking along the street... maybe you should just lock the door and never leave the house... but then you'd probably choke on a piece of toast or something... so maybe just don't eat... but then you'd die anyway...
You will die one day and when it happens, you won't even know about it and can't stop it from happening either - so chill. |

There are no more plane crashes than usual. There are just more plane crashes in the news, at least in part because they happen to have been in major Western cities (New York, Amsterdam) which always attract more attention than elsewhere. Also, the Hudson plane crash featured very heavily in the news precisely because there were no deaths. Plane travel remains as safe (or as dangerous) as always; just because the news media have been giving particular crashes more attention doesn't improve or worsen the level of risk.
Even if you fly on one of the 25 airlines with the worst safety records, your chances of being killed on any single flight are 1 in 1.1million. On the safest 25 airlines your chances fall to 1 in 13.5million.
If you are still looking for reasons not to fly when it comes to your holiday, though, you might like to consider the environmental impact of air travel, which is far worse than other methods of travel. |

One aircraft does a numerous amount of flights a day. But when you hear about one, everyone gets all scared. Think about how many flights are flown each day, and the amount of crashes. Air travel is still much safer than driving. |

It only seems so bad because its broadcast everywhere. Imagine if they broadcast every time a flight took off and landed successfully, The crashes would be a very small amount compared to successes don't you think.
Don't waste your time worrying about it when it hasn't happened. Don't let it put you off going on holiday either. |

The Turkish Airlines crash at Schipol A-Dam may have been caused by bad weather and poor visibility. The cloud level was down at about 700-feet - the pilot may have come down too low in order to see the runway and landed in advance of the runway by about three miles. He appears to have been on the glide-path, okay, but did not seem to know where he was in relation to the airport.
ALTERNATIVE MEANS OF TRAVEL IN EUROPE
Don't worry, you do not have to fly anywhere these days, at least, not here in the EU. You can travel right across the EU on high speed trains. Don't imagine it's slow either. The London to Paris run by train takes only 2.15 hours. The French have high speed trains which can do speeds of over 300 mph. These trains take you right into city centres, no transfer, no hassle.

My partner and me are off on our annual trip to Paris in May - EuroStar is how we travel - it's modern, it's fast and it's very safe.
In spite of all the technology, my favourite train ever is still this. . .

Here are some of the most awesome steam locomotives of all time, sadly no longer with us - the massive Big Boy locos of the mighty Union Pacific Railroad Company USA - wow!

Remember, "Let the Train take the Strain" - no more worries.
Have a great Summer and enjoy your holidays. Go by train. |

Its business. Profit is important and due to the economic crisis, maintenance needs to be cut down. Almost half of air plane crashes are due to incorrect maintenance. |
