Over 90% of airplane accidents happen during either take-off or landing. So the flight attendants must put passengers in the safest position in case something occurs at that time. They ask you to put your seatback in the upright position because if anything goes wrong you will be thrust forward with great force. The smaller distance your upper body will have to cover, the smaller the force with which you may hit the seat in front of you.
The second reason is so that your seatback will not block the people trying to evacuate from the row behind you.
Many lives have been saved from little things like that, that may seem unimportant to most. |

so they are in the safest position if they crash. |
|

Caz
|
Because if the plane has an accident on landing the seat being back can crush the person behind and makes it hard for you and the person behind to move into the brace position |
|

So that the person behind you can get into the brace position if needed to. |

The answers about proving best position, ease of escape, allowing people to brace etc are all correct. However, it would be safer in an accident if seats were facing rearwards not forwards. |

first of all because it's the safest position that your back can have... and u have to fasten your seat-belts while seated because u can never know when you will bump on some heavy could and be thrown out in the cabin :)) |

Because the seats are supposed to be in their original positions with trays up. In case of any problems during take off or landing and need to evacuate the plane quickly. Seats being reclined would slow up the process and if they break during landing they could cause injury to the person behind them. |

cos they can |

My husband always moans about the seat belts, cos if the plane is going to crash down from the air then you will more than likely die any way, so how is a seatbelt goint to save you. |
