Why dont they serve real meals on airplanes anymore?

I am flying out of DIA in July and we will be flying during lunch time. However, i went on the air line web sight and they do not searve meals anymore. Just snacks. I will be flying with my 6 year old and our layover gives us just enough time to get to our flight. I know that a snack will not be enough for her until we land in Michigan. what can i do about this?

I've flown for years, and short of flying in first class, they haven't served a "real" meal (as in you can choke it down) in a lonnnnnng time on a major airline. The stuff they used to serve would probably not be considered desirable to a 6 year old anyhow.

I agree that the "snacks" are hardly satisfying. I would recommend that you pack something ahead of time, like a sandwich and some crackers or chips and some fruit, in your carry on bag, or better yet hers. Bring a few options and be prepared for her to not want some of it.

Depending on the airline, some of the for-purchase snack packages might appeal to a 6 year old (and provide a distraction), as they often contain things like cookies, chips, etc. check with your airline.

Try bringing in some food of your own....
The airline business is doing extremely bad....the only company that has done well is the No Frills Southwest airlines....

They are just trying to cut costs as much as possible because a majority of them aren't making a profit...

well thats not entierly true, because continental still serves food usuall its a small meal but they are the ONLY US airliner that serves a meal on any flight!!!

Can't you pack something non-perishable? They don't serve meals anymore because they are going broke and had to cut their spending somewhere.

yeah experience the same. but they have mcdonalds and stores like that in the airport, cause i know you can't carry outside liquids only ones you buy in the airport but i am not sure if you can't carry outside sandwiches , so try that hopefully she will slepp most of the flight like my neice.

probably the cost. Try to sneak some food on the plane, or eat before. Mabye drinking some green tea will work, because that makes you less-hungry. Or, just pig out when you get to Michigan!

Whenever I go on a long trip I usually take a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and chips. You'll get a drink on flight so need to worry about that.
