There are quite a lot of female airline pilots - Rosebella Bjornson, Canada's first airline pilot. Just because you haven't seen any doesn't mean there aren't any.
Perhaps you need to fly more! ;)

Probably because the pilots don't walk down the aisle and introduce themselves these days, especially if they are female.

There are lots of female airline pilots, and their numbers are increasing. Just listen to air traffic control radio sometime, and you'll hear both female pilots and female controllers.

I know that, at least in a few cases, airlines don't advertise the fact that a pilot is a woman, because there are still some passengers who are prejudiced against "women drivers." If there's one male pilot and one female pilot, the airline might prefer that the male pilot make all the announcements so that nobody realizes that the other pilot is female. It's a stupid practice, but then again, lots of passengers are stupid, too.

From about 50 flights i would have seen a few, they are out there!

I guess because you didn't look hard enough. Although most commercial airline pilots are men, there are approsimately 7,100 female commercial airline pilots in the US alone.

Oh, well, you just haven't seen one. I have seen a bunch from Southwest Airlines (Westjet partner) and Airtran Airways.

Stephanie
o.o well i see tons of them, but then, i live in the USA.

About 1/10th of all airline pilots are female. They dress very much like flight attendants. You have probably walked by them in the airport and not realized. Here are some clues:
-They wear a pilot's hat
-Have stripes on the sleeve or the shoulder of their uniform called "epualettes"
-The uniforms are the same color but more of a business pant suit.

I have experienced woman pilots now and then for intra-Europe flights. Strangely enough they fly as good as their male colleagues :-)

Now, you rarely see the pilot, the only time you will know who is the pilot is during the flight briefing. You know: "Captain Sarah West and the crew welcomes you on to this flight to Chicago".

And most people ignore to listen to this :-(

Brandon T
I flew to Korea and we had a female Pilot. Didn't notice anything. But she was very friendly! Well sounded friendly anyway.

Dan
Not enough exposure. There are actually quite a few female pilots.

Regards,
Dan
