Why is a return flight from NYC to LONDON near the end of November so much? |
My boyfriend is looking to fly to England from New York 21-25 november but the flights are about $560+. We have never paid that much before and even the discount airlines and sites seem to be really high, what is it about November that is so expensive?? Even flying nearer New year is cheaper than what were finding, hes looking for something about $450-$500 is this unreasonable?? |

While theres other factors, the primary reason is because its getting closed to Christmas, and by that time, the airlines are getting a lot of people flying. Its kind of a supply and demand thing with regards to seating. When you get a lot of people, you raise the prices. The loads do pick up starting in november, at least in my experience. |

Believe it or not many Christmas shoppers from the UK take the trip to New York at this time of year.
Also there are many Americans who return to the USA from Europe to be at home for Thanks Giving celebrations which in some ways is a bigger holiday for them than the Christmas celebrations.
It's simply an supply and demand issue. |

I work for an airline, that price could actually be waaaayyy higher, so that is not all bad. Another reason is alot of people travel for the holidays, try playing with the dates to get it down (although that may already be the lowest). |

November sparks off what is called "Peak Holiday Travel" in the airline/vacation world. Although airlines will start their "Price Wars" for excursion destinations during the holiday season (check out Virgin Atlantic's "holiday packages"), Thanksgiving week travel is the Busiest for American airlines.
There are quite a few "last minute" ticket sites where discounted tickets for what were previously sold out flights become available. **Thanksgiving is the most difficult holiday to find these flights because rarely do people cancel their flights and there are always people willing to "pay" whatever to get "HOME for the Holidays".
If your boyfriend is willing to risk not having a guaranteed seat, or willing to "shop around" for inexpensive flights, I have included the links to many "cheap ticket" sites.
I have also included the link to Virgin Atlantic Vacations that offer many Package deals to London.
Good luck! |

The reason is that it's starting to approach the festive season and flying around Christmas time is always more expensive. I know it isn't anywhere near Christmas but for the airlines Christmas starts early, that's why. But I personally would say that it isn;t unreasonable for a flight from NYC to England. That works out at approx. £280GBP, which isn't too bad. It normally costs about an extra £100 to do that during the summer and other major holidays. So it's an average price for the time of year |

It is so expensive for 2 reasons. Firstly, you are booking so close to the travel date, so the flights are more expensive. ALso, flights become more expensive near to Christmas. Ive looked around for you and you can fly with Icelandair from Heathrow via Reykjavik for £484.20 or £471.62 with Delta from Manchester. I hope this helps. |

The problem is that it is thanksgiving.... And Xmas shopping time so NYC is busy this time of year. The earlier you book the cheaper it is but sadly this time of year its likely to cost you more |

You are mad - that price is a bargain.
Been from London to NYC many times and I have never paid much less than that fare. |
