Why is it illegal to carry water, perfume, nail clippers and food on airplanes? |
I would rather pay less and fly on airplanes that are 'less' safe and take the risk of less inspection and allowing people to carry the above listed 'dangerous' items on an airplane because the gov has failed to convince me of their danger. Additional Details It's impossible for someone to stab with a nail clipper lol that cracks me up. And I've never seen water explode, that also cracks me up, so I feel a great sense of sadness reading your answers. |

While I have a little problem with your statement that you would prefer to be on a plane which is "less safe" I can agree with your question.
We have been told, that these restrictions will make things more safe - and all it does is implement fear.
Past travel has also shown that I can still bring some of those "dangerous" good into a plane. It was a honest oversight on my part - and it was not detected....
While I can have a certain understanding for liquids, the nail clippers really get me too.
Yet, I have a better one. I wanted to take some canned meat with me to Italy (3 different kind of sausage like stuff) and I was allowed to take 2 of them (since they were of non-spreadable consistence) and had to leave one behind - because it was considered spreadable...... Before someone has to say something about food from one country to another - this was a flight from Germany to Italy and we do not have the same kind of food restrictions as in North America. |

It's the same with kids. You do lots of things to keep them safe, just in case. If you catch ur baby playing on the stairs or worse, has a little tumble on the stairs, would you not buy a stair gate? It doesnt mean that they are completely immune from disaster, it just means that if something bad did happen to then, there was precious little else you could do to prevent it! |

Now they have you take off your shoes in case someone tries to bring a bomb in their shoes...again. There's smarter ways of handling security. |

It is not food that's prohibited, it's LIQUID or liquid-like food....google "Richard Reid" and you will find out why. Nobody has ever had a problem with my nail clippers.
and it is not about accidents, it is about voluntary acts of terrorism!
While I agree that the whole liquids thing is overblown, that TSA is about creating the illusion of security without really adding any...think about it; if somebody did really succeed in making a liquid explosive device, it will not just be you saying "Oh zhit, maybe the TSA really did have a point" as you hurtle towards the ground, it will be everybody else on the plane, and everybody it hits on the ground.
Before 9/11, it wasn't prohibited to carry knives on planes, just knives over a certain length. The boxcutters the terrorists used--if discovered--would have been waved on thru security. |

becuz I think a terrorist made a shampoo bomb or the clippers can be weapons or w/e, so yeah it was a while ago and every1 forgot so... |

they over analize things. But be appreciative that they do so because who knows. Maybe the water and stuff some people carry are explosives. You never know. They'd rather not risk it so that's why there's so much security! It's a hassle, yes i know.. but it's a hassle for them too. Having to examine carry ons and what not all day long. Pretty annoying after a while. |

Used together, they can create explosives. |

its because they now make explosives in liquid form ..and what you are saying is both stupid and irresponsible ..there are other peoples lives at stake here not just yours ..think before you post such silly questions |

I feel a great sense of sadness for your question. Sure it's a pain in the a@# to go through security and not be able to carry certain things on the plane anymore, but is it really too much to ask to possibly prevent another tragedy like 9/11? Do you have any compassion? |

nail clippers can be turned into a stabbing implement, water can actually be acid or a harmfull chemical, purfume could be set alight creating a molotof cocktail, and food can carry bugs which can ravage other countries crops
its just to try and make you feel safer, even tho you could stab a person to death with a pen and a laptop can be turned into a bomb quite easily |
