I once used this argument (semi-jokingly) at check-in as my baggage was over the limit but I'm not large and, as I put it, could easily weigh another 20 - 30kg and still be alive and kicking. Ergo, surely they should let me off my excess baggage.
They did in the end, probably not because of that argument but because I was checking in early, but still.
In America lots of people will book two seats if they are concerned about their size. I think it's a good idea not least because I've been stook next to a dreadfully obese person for a long flight and they spilled over into my seat - not good! |

Larger people, as long as they occupy one seat, as you or anyone else does, should only pay the same rate. |

It is unfair to charge people by their weight, many large people cannot actually help their weight level. So therefore, perhaps thin people should be charged more because they waste space on the aircraft!
Argument aside...
The airline companies take an "average weight" of passenger and use that to calculate (a) the luggage allowance and (b) the cost of the flight. This is also why, ocassionally, passengers are "bumped" off flights to (for example) southern Spain because forty or so golfers are going with overweight bags which contain golf clubs. |

Are you talking about baggage or pricing for a seat? Baggage is the same all around for all people no matter your size, it goes by how much the bag weighs, if it's over either you take out stuff or pay for the overage. As far as paying for seats, yes some that take up two seats pay for two seats. |

I think they should charge by how much you weigh, why should a person that weighs 240 pay the same as a 120 pound person ? Or a 300 pound person pay the same air fare as a 150 pound person, it doesn't seem fair to me. Lord knows, if I sit next to them, they take half of my seat !!!! |

Because they can! If you are so bothered by it, why not strap all your clothes and toiletries to your person and wear a huge kaftan over the top, that way you can take 20kg of shoes and you get away with it too? |

i think that as long as they olny take up one seat thats cool its when they smell like fat people they should pay restitution ps i like the way you think its a shame more people dont think the way you do !!!!!!!! |

Look on the bright side, if like us slimmer types you take more clothes. Infact its proberly a little unfair on the large folk they can't take as many items. |

If a ticket would have to cost per kilo person, then it would be a misery....have you thought that in no time you can become huge and regret what you are thinking and writing today?
In case of starting discriminating people in a plane, pregnant women should pay for two, a kid would not pay so much, and very tall but thin people also would have to pay more because of their weight and the space that the legs occupy. The one who brings a lunch pack during an intercontinental flight should have discount for not eating, people would start thinking to bring their own toilet paper and soap, serving themselves for avoiding the costs of the crew, and it might be possible to replace the pilot in order to make "budget trips" even cheaper.
How about walking and swimming till your destination? |

if they started to weigh people as well you would then complain that the check in was taking longer,as if it does not already, rule of thumb is that you pay per seat. |

Everyone is allowed the same amount of baggage, but I have heard of airlines charging large people for 2 seats if they are that big... |

Well i just paid £4000 to go to Perth in Australia and I'm not Obese but am carrying more weight than i should be .How much should i pay? |

By the same logic surely dwarves, anorexics and amputees should pay even less than all us beautiful people shouldn't they? (this is possibly a more 'politically incorrect' answer than even this outrageously unthinkable question). |

They do charge more if they take up more than one seat, well i know British Airways do. Baggage allowance is the same for everyone. |

Checked baggage also has dimension limitations, and so do people... if they don't fit into one seat, they pay more! |

Fat people do have to pay for 2 seats if they can't fit into one but but as you just said they have the same baggage allowance...all luggage is weighed before it gets on the plane this goes for skinny or fat people. Obviously a skinny person would be able to take more clothes because their clothes would weigh less since there is less material to make their clothes. |

If you are rather 'large' the airline may charge you for two seat, (i.e. for people that spill over their seat onto the person next to them)
But apparently the fact that people now way more on average, airlines have to use more fuel when flying than they did 30 years ago. |
