THEY DO
you are just not looking at the right airlines. |

They do. QANTAS flies directly to Honolulu and Los Angeles from Australia. Air New Zealand flies directly from New Zealand. When you think about it, how else are you going to get from Australia to America except straight across the Pacific? |

Qantas flies from Sydney and Melbourne to Los Angeles and San Francisco.
United flies from San Francisco and Los Angeles to Sydney
Air New Zealand flies from Auckland to Los Angeles (not sure if they have discontinued San Francisco).
These flights are near the maximum range for the 747-400 aircraft which serve them, but these are not the longest flights in the world. EWR-SIN and LAX-SIN are longer. Singapore uses an Airbus 340 airplane with reduced capacities to save weight to make this possible. |

Hi Jerome, actually there is at least one direct flight from Sydney to Los Angeles with Qantas. I'm not sure if any other airlines offer direct flights, but that might be a start for you. |

Never? Uh, every day, my friend, several airlines make the flight across the great pond, non-stop.

there are airlines that do fly directly to those locations it is just a bit more costly. I used to work for a company shipping pets around the world and book flights for the pets on the direct flights to Australia and other places like that it is easier for the pet! So it's possible for humans as well! |

I've met people who have flown from Auckland and Sydney direct to San Fransisco and Los Angeles. The most direct and quickest route is over the Pacific with very little in the way for a stopover. |

They do fly from those countries. I was an exchange student in australia, and remember Quantas had direct LAX/Sydney flights. I think United, Cathay Pacific, singapore and Air New Zealand also offer this direct service.
The other side of the question is that it is a very long flight, and easier to break up at least with one fuel stop (necessary for some jumbo jets). Fuel stops to those countries are often Fiji, Tahiti and sometimes Hawaii. |

It is not feasible to go direct, as there are places to stop and pick up/drop off others. plus one tank of fuel may not allow u to fly that far without stopping. |
