Why is it that they dint give you parachutes on regular airplane flights in case it crashes?

I understand at certin heights you cannot open the doors due to presure, but what if the plane is not that high up yet or you are not that many miles in the air. Couldnt passangers use a parachute and survive on a passanger plane?

oops just saw spelling my fault

Large airrcraft are presurized so you cannot open the doors until the presure has equalized. But by then its too late. The spead that the aircraft is traveling also prevents a person from parachuting out

That would be a Much Better Idea Good Thinking my Friend

Euhm it costs alot..and by the way if a plane is crashing before everybody has his parachute on...which most do not even know how to operate the plane already crashed...before they had the chance t evacuate

If you don't know how to jump out of a plane going 500 mph, you have a better chance of going down with the plane.
ps: They wont let you bring a parachute on a plane and even if you had one they wont open the door before a crash.

Technically that sounds feasible. But its not cost effective to haul that many shutes for every flight.

Well I had always thought this was a good idea too and wondered why they dont give you them, until I answered a question like this before. Now I have learned that most aircrafts have no exit that would provide safe bailing out. And even if the plane was not that high up yet, all the people on board would probably kill each other before anyone even got to a door. Anyways, here was my fav. answer from the question before:

It is hard enough to get out of an airliner on the ground when the plane is standing still at the gate now imagine 300 idiots that did not listen to the flight attendant's briefing trying to figure out how to use a parachute for the first time then imagine that the airplane is moving around tossing you up and down and back and front now we come to the fact that in a pressurized aircraft you can not open the doors until it is depressurized oh yeah and you are flying at 400 MPH hope you don't hit the tail on your way out. More people would die attempting to exit the aircraft than if they rode it in during an emergency landing!!!! As for the guy who mentioned ejection pods your just an idiot if every passenger had an ejection pod the plane would weigh too much it would never get off the ground and if it did manage to get off the ground its performance would be so badly degraded it would be more likely to crash.

And...
In my opinion, if some guy wants to bring his own parachute, then I would let him.

broken_jade
not to mention, the training needed for putting on a parachute and how to use one
