You don't "have to" by regulation, it's probably an airline thing to make passengers more comfortable, just like drawing the curtains at home, you can't see the dark outside. |

Two reasons - helps everyone to sleep better, also, gets your eyes used to the dak if there was an emergency so you adjust and respond more quickly. that reminds me - one of the engines failed on the plane my husband was on the other day - it was at night as well.... |

I would think its to make the planes navigation lights you know the green and red lights that flash on the outside of the plane more visible to other planes. I have only had to close the blinds once and that was on a flight back from San Fransisco with Virgin |
