Will I be allowed into the cockpit when I go to Australia?

Im 14 now and really into aircraft & aviation and was wondering if I would be able to meet the pilots and have a quick look in the cockpit when I fly to Australia later on in the year. I remember they used to let you in, but that was a long time ago!

They are not supposed to let anyone in other than flight crew, dispatchers, mechanics, or FAA. During the flight ask the flight attendant if you can talk to the pilots once you have landed. They may or may not let you. 9/11 DID change everything. Now there FFDO's (Federal Flight Deck Officers, I.E. Pilots with guns) in the cockpit. While the one person may have gotten in the cockpit during flight, that is a huge no no, and if an FAA person is traveling and see's this, it will result in a huge fine to the airline, and the crewmembers could lose their certificates.

Since 9-11 you have absolutely zero chance of entering the cockpit, sorry.

I work on planes nearly every day of my life.

The best way is to ask the nicest flight attendant during the flight whether you could go after the flight has landed. Every flight crew I have ever worked with has always said yes.

Oh and don't forget be nice to them!

regulations specifically restrict the access to the flight deck of an aircraft whilst it is in flight, the door should tehnically be locked, when in flight.

you could alwasy try, but don't get your hopes up.

Melissa
There is no chance that you'll be allowed in during flight. The only people allowed in during flight are the flight crew, and there are a series of security measures taken now anytime someone goes in or out of the cockpit during flight.

You probably can't go in before the flight, because the crew is busy preparing the plane for take-off at that point. They actually can't be disturbed at all, aside from an emergency, after they close the cockpit door about 10-15 minutes before takeoff. Even before that, they're working.

Your best chance would be after the flight. I would ask a flight attendant during the flight if there is a chance you can wait around and see the cockpit after the plane lands and everyone disembarks. That would be your best bet. But I wouldn't get your hopes up.

When you're too big to sit in the pilot's lap, that's when they stop letting you in the cockpit.

m
Eh i would doubt it - everything is very strict since 9/11. However, that isn't to say it isn't worth a try. I would wait until you are on the plane then try your luck...you never know! Smile nicely!

Archie M
Generally yhey may let u in if u ask if you can have a look before takeoff/after landing, but no chance of getting in in the air. Remeber, if you dont ask you wont get!

I remember my first plane ride! I saw the Pilot and Co-Pilot and all those other guys in the cockpit and they smiled at me. I just walked in, because, well, I was little and I thought smiling was an invitation to come in. They were in no hurry to get me out, though. My parents even came in. We had to leave when the last passenger boarded howerver, so they could get ready for liftoff!

You want an answer?
There is no chance at all of you being allowed in the cockpit. sorry

not during flight but after and before there is a bigger chance especially if u r in first class

With all the security, I should think not. You could have a sinister reason for wanting to enter the cockpit. But asking does not hurt, they can only say no.

madjackolantern
no

Ignore all this 9/11 crap, they let me this February 2008 in an AMERICAN flight. haha, You have good chances. BTW im 13

Just ask politely, you will be surprised.

Birchall18
Ask at the travel agents when you book your holiday, they might not let you do it if you ask on the plane but maybe if you ask the travel agents they can arrange something in advance.
