Will I have to pay the full fare (airline) for my 2 year old child?

Because your child is 2 years old, he/she cannot be a lap child so therefore, you will have to purchase a separate airline ticket for this child. However, depending on the carrier you choose, child fares have different rate structure than adult fare and they are normally cheaper than a regular adult fare. Certainly, proof of age (a birth certificate or passport) will be required upon check-in or you will have to pay a penalty if you neglected to bring one. Also, keep in mind, you cannot request for the "emergency exit row seat" if you are travelling with anyone under 15 years old. At this day and age of high fuel prices, all airlines have reestablished the 14-day advance reservation for cheaper fares with a Saturday night stay. Anything earlier than this, you would have to pay a very steep air fare. So plan accordingly and please check-in 2 hours prior to your departure. Oh before I forget, you can preboard too because you have a child.

It depends on the airline. Some offer discounted fares for children under a certain age. Check your airline's website.

US Airways policy is any child over 2 years must have a seat. They will ask for a birth certificate when you check in. If they don't TSA will when you try to go through security because your child will need a boarding pass as well. Even if your child is 1 on the outbound and turns 2 while on your trip you will still have to purchase a seat for the return flight. Im pretty sure this policy is uniform throughout the airline industry considering it is mandated by the FAA.

Normally not if the child travels on your lap (i.e same seat as you). If they take up a seat then you pay for the seat... although some airlines will give a discount for a child's seat assuming the child is under a certain age.
Note that if the child travels on your lap you may not get a baggage allowance for the child. Check the relevant airline's website for futher info.

as of my knowledge, you are going to pay 10% of the current air fare for children below 2 years old. and for 2 years old and up you'll get a discount depending on the airlines you are going to choose for your flight.

wkharris2001
it depends is it a domestic or an international flight? alot of airlines don't offer a discount on domestic flights, but some will offer a discount on international flights, best thing to do is to call the Reservations department of the airline you wish to travel and ask them about a child fare.

from the southwest airline home page. don't know what airline your using.
Accompanied children ages two through 11 will be charged the applicable Child's Fare for the flight (does not apply to unaccompanied children ages five through 11).
Proof of age will be required at time of travel.
Online checkin is available if the child is traveling on a Child Fare and is age verified.
