For the purposes of expediting the security check process, take off your belly button ring and put it in your carry-on prior to going through the metal detector. You can put it back in once you get through security.
It would most likely not set off the metal detectors, however metal detection security levels are unpredictable.
The people who do not take off their jewelry are the people who cause security line delays, sometimes including delays for pilots and the crew, in turn causing airline delays, which jam up our airspace system. So please, do us all a favor (this goes for everyone) and take off as many metal objects on your body and place them in your carry-on, where you can then put those items back on your body.

Earrings, finger rings, belly button rings, or any other body piercings *generally* do not set off metal detectors. Just make sure you take off your watch and empty your pockets before going through the metal detector.
At most airports, they give you a second chance to find any other metal and remove it if you set it off the first time. If that's the only metal you have on you, if you set it off the first time, then just take it out and try again. But I really wouldn't worry about it. |

ok this is the deal the belly button piercing can and most likely set of a airport metal ditector so your best pet is to put it in a carryon bag and do not wear it aborad a flight. |

Yes it can. They can be set to different levels so at the highest level, a pair of earrings can set it off. |

Perhaps if you go through with it on, and 'forget' to take it off, when the detector goes off, and they question you, or they go over you, you can show them the ring, without having to take it off.
Or have a plastic bag, or a container and take the ring off prior to getting to airport, or before you get in line. |
