Wondering if I should FLY or not? |
I live in Louisiana and I will be traveling to see a friend from grade school and my long lost brother in the same trip. They live in Texas.
I was wondering if I should fly there. I have never flown before and a little nervious. I looked up the tickets and they are $218.00 round trip but with an hour stop in GA.
I was wondering if it would be cheaper to drive and if i do fly, is it really that bad?
Also, if you have flown before tell me what you thought of it kinda of like pros and cons.
Thanks in advacne. |

I live in Texas ^_^. Louisiana is pretty close for driving, but if you don't mind spending the money for flying and want the convenience, then I'd fly. You hear some bad stories about flying, but I wouldn't worry if that's what you want to do. I've been on plane flights four times that I can remember and probably other times that I can't remember. If you decide to fly, then be sure to bring gum. When the plane takes off and when it lands, the pressure changes, which causes your ears to "click." It doesn't really hurt much, but it is annoying and by chewing gum and swallowing a bunch when your ears start to feel like they're going to "click," then you can avoid that. Other than that, don't be worried about the plane flight. I think it is cool being up in the clouds. My brother was worried on his first time and the only thing he was scared of was the takeoff, then after that he was fine. I hope you have a good stay in Texas and that your reunion is fun! |

$218 is a reasonable price but try to get a direct flight if you can. If you are flying into Houston, I suggest that you look at the Continental website (www.continental.com), if you are flying to Dallas then try American Airlines. Flying is perfectly safe.
As far as flying is concerned, there is absolutely nothing to be scared of. I fly every week for work. Watching the news can make flying scary for the unseasoned traveller, but I assure you that you are in good hands. The pilot would not fly in any situation that is not more than safe (it's his butt on the line, too). |

If they live in east Texas, consider driving. If they live in west Texas, you should fly. |

You can figure out the cost of driving by going to Map Quest at the link below and entering both addresses. It will tell you how many miles they are apart. You'll need to know how many miles per gallon your car gets. If you don't know and it's an SUV or big truck figure about 10 mpg or if it's a small car or small truck figure about 20. You'll also need to know the cost of a gallon of gas in your area.
Flying is normally a big advantage if the trip will take more than a day by car, else the advantages of driving like having your car to use when you get there usually make it worthwhile.
Have fun! |

Flying from Louisiana to Texas by way of Georgia is a pretty round-about way of doing things. I would check with a couple of different airlines to see if any of them offer direct service--- or at least service where you're not going so far East before you head West. Nonstop flights are less stressful for nervous fliers, too, as you only take off and land once for the entire trip. I'd definitely fly if it would take more than 3 hours to drive, though. |

The actual flying is not a big event and no need to be nervous-- unless you are nervous on any form of transportation. Sure, it can crash, but so an your car. You are just more familar with the car. The big con to air travel is the security hassles in the airport before you board and the always possible chance of lost or delayed luggage. But I would choose it over road travel in a second , if the price is good. |
