Big Blue

Worst US Airlines?

I just started flying recently. I flew US Airways, Delta, and Northwest Airlines. With all 3 airlines, my flight home was delayed. Northwest do not offer free food! Which airlines should I avoid and why?

I avoid US Airways, Delta, and Southwest. Southwest is not bad, I am just tired of the overbooked flights and being herded on the plane like cattle. My favourites are Midwest and Continental. Just got off of my 50th flight with Midwest Airlines. I love their 717 aircraft with the extra big seats and the food, even though you have to pay for it.

I have been flying for business for 25+ years. All airlines have had their good and bad days. I do not know where in the US you are, but if you are in a major city that is a hub for an airline I would look into trying to use that airline so that you can build miles and status with one airline.

Getting to the first level of status with any frequent flier plan helps alot in the travel - you get better seat selection (airlines reserve the front section of coach for members, some offer choice coach seats - the exit rows with more leg room to members) and the chance for free or discounted First Class upgrades.

Airline food in coach? Take it from me bring something on board in your bag. We like stopping at our favorite sushi place and grabbing a couple of rolls to take on board, a good deli sandwich also makes the flight better. I also like buying the big containers of mixed nuts from Sam's then bring on zip-lock bags of good nuts not some old peanuts.

Also be prepared for delays and hold ups, they do happen. If you are going to be traveling alot, find ways to help get you through the down time that works for you - a book, a potable DVD player, if you are traveling more than twice a month look in the joining a airline's private club ($250-400 yrly fees) but worth it if you end up spending a lot of time in airports.

Hope this helps

all the big us airlines are the same. avoid the small airlines. (btw continental still gives you a snack box for free)

airtran or southwest...you get what you pay for.
buy your food before you get on and forget about it.

susi
very few airlines offer food anymore! The worst is Air Tran. I am a flight attendant and any of the small companies like Song, Air Tran are pretty bad!

I always do my best to avoid Delta and Southwest. Some folks would add Jet Blue to that as well. Having never flown them before, I only know what I see in the news.

northmiamibeach1975
Northwest, Southwest, USAirways.

The "less-worst":
Continental
JetBlue
Midwest

I say song, airtran, and northwest are really bad because of my experiance on all of them
