Would there be a way for me to be a single parent and be a flight attendant?

Of course, I'm a flight attendant I'm not a single mom but I work with many single mom's and they love it, you have to plan in advance but your schedule is given way in advance so it does make it possible.

YES, you could be a flight attendant as a single parent IF you had good day care or a family that can baby sit. If the child's father is in the picture and will be willing to take custody on a 3-4 days on and 3-4 days off basis, then that will work perfectly too.

A few of the F/As I have flown with are single parents or are divorced. (One in particular has a 6 yr old daughter.) They do have the assistance of family members though, so when they are gone for 4 days at a time their child is well cared for.

I think it would be very difficult. For starters you would have to be away loads and as someone said here before - your daughter needs you at her age and well, up untill she's a teenager at least!
This job involves working unsociable hours, too. And you will need plenty of rest. It depends partly on the airline you work work as well. If you only do domestic or short haul and you can work part-time, you could do it.

You will need loads of help though.

I personally wouldn't recommend it.

yeah, if someone can take care of your baby, cause the schedule is pretty hectic, and second u must meet the minimum requirements to become a flight attendant :P good luck mam!

That would be interesting.. U sure would be gone a lot. Unless the airline company can let ur child ride once and a while.

Most airlines are very difficult at first because they make you go on reserve and could call you away at any time for any duration of time...

however there are some airlines that only schedule 'turns' so you would be home every night... look for companies that service charter airplanes to Mexico and Caribbean...

if the company does any kind of military flying (lots do), then know you would be away for up to 10 days at a time....

Also, look for mid-sized companies that you think will be doing a lot of hiring in the near future... that way you may not be on reserve for too long and will get a good schedule to fit your life in less than few years.....

the industry as a whole is somewhat instable though and when companies merge or go bankrupt, the long-time employees might find themselves back to where they started real quick..... otherwise the pay is pretty good, the hours are less than 40hrs. a week and allots you a lot of 'quality' time for your children.
