YES!!!!
The odds are not good, but given the chance, IN A MINUTE!!!
Got anything better to do with your life?
I'd fly in that old-tech orbiter any day before taking a chance in the Soyuz, and people are paying MILLIONS for a ride in that Soviet dinosaur.
Realistically, I think I'll hold out for a trip in Branson's Space Ship II.
With Virgin Galactic running the show, and Burt Rutan calling the design shots, I'll be relaxed all the way to space and back. With the government out of the picture, things are sure to go nice and smooth. |

Not if you look forward to calculate the odds. Past technical problems that have been fixed skew historical data so your premise is wrong. |

I would never want to go into space. I don't think it is adventuresome, just scary. But I do want to ride a ripcord above treetops on my 25th anniversary cruise! I'm even going to lose 50+ pounds to do it. YEAH, BABY!! |

Sure, even if there is a 1 in 50 chance of crashing, the chances of surviving are also pretty good since the best brains in the world are working to make sure you come back safely. Besides just an opportunity to look at Earth from space is enough to motivate me.
Watch Apollo 13! |

You betcha - Oh my to touch the face of God. Being born is a risk and then staying alive is a risk. Life is shorter than we think, so we should make the best of it while we are here. What an experience that would be - unbelievable! |

To do so would be a once-in -a-lifetime chance.
I would do it in a minute! |

The fact that the Shuttle has already crashed one time in 50 doesn't necessarily mean that the odds of any future aircraft crashing is the same 1-in-50. Each launch is an event that is independent of all other flights -- past or present.
That being said, though, I'd do it in a heartbeat. |

I take risks all the time. Why should this one bother me? And by risks I mean everyday stuff that I never think about, such as riding a bus, a car, eating... there are risks in everything. I wouldn't want to go into space for more than 2 days though. Zero gravity, freeze dried food, no italian food, no way. |
