Would you let your just turned 12 year old fly alone on a plane?

I'm not sure that it's a great idea. I just want to see what other people think.
Additional Details
It is a non'stop flight about 1 1/2 hours long.

Yes, absolutely. Not only are they old enough to know how to respond to any unusual circumstances, but they are also well supervised during flights. You can pay an addtional fee to have someone watch over them and take them through the entire process. They can only release them to the person you designate and no one else.

Yes, I would. They are well taken care of on the flight and the flight attendants pay close attention to them to make sure they don't get lost. They are perfectly safe.

Yes! I fly by myself with my little sister, and we were under 12. Actualy we flew all the time alone. The minor program that the airlines have is great. Your child is on the plane first and then the last to get off with an attendant. The have special rooms with tvs, toys and snacks for layovers. Its not as bad as it seems trust me!

Absolutely. My daughter was flying alone several times a year when she was 6. The airlines may lose your luggage, but they won't lose your kid.

I think so. I am sure the airlines will keep a watch out for the young ones on any flight, especially unaccompanied!

kellie.
well, i'm 15, and my mom won't let me fly alone, though i think it's just because i'm her last child.
i agree with everyone else; 12 year olds should be mature enough to fly by themselves.

This would very much depend on the maturity of your 12 year old and how long the flight is and whether it is a nonstop flight or not. Your first step should be to contact the airline the flight will be on and inquire about their regulations for "unaccompanied minors". Many airlines offer a service for a small fee where you can arrange for someone to watch out for your child traveling alone. For myself, I would not have my child travel alone unless I could put them on a nonstop flight with a relative on the other end to meet them at the gate.

Yes. I flew alone on a plane when i was 10 to 12 from California to Detroit. The staff is extra friendly, and sometimes they move children flying alone to the front. When i got off, they took me to a room (my mom was a few minutes late) and i watched movies and everything. I think its good for kids, unless the child is really attached to it's parents.

it all depends on the maturity of the 12 year old. i don't know about some of these airlines, they can get pretty scary for me so i don't know how a 12 year old might see it. but with prayer they will be alright.
