Check-in Agents really have a tough job, they work with all different types of persons, under pressure (and must be able to remain calm and efficient) and make the best of less-than-ideal conditions. It is a general condition that they are friendly and personable, mature in attitude and outlook (not all of them of course, you may find also a bad check-in agent, and in that situation you need to report it to the airline).
It is not easy to work with people of all ages and cultures. Sometimes they deal with people that don't have tickets, already paid for, some of them don't have the reservations but have the ticket...In difficult situations-conditions passengers tend to blame the Check-in Agent for all their problems, even if it doesn't depend on him. They try to find find the best solutions, as people expect really great deal from them. Representing the immage of the company, they are polite and respectuous to all people, at least they have to try their best. It is not always possible to maintain the calm though in every situation, but I have all respect for them as I am one of them!!! |

People think the job is easy, but its really not. Its very hard. Dealing with unruley passengers is not only tough, sometimes nearly impossible and scary! We dont get treated with the respect that we deserve. Because we are there, passengers have someone to yell at. If there is a flight delay, it gets taken on the gate agent, If there is bad weather, its taken on the gate agent. It stinks! Be nice to your check in agents, we work our butts off! |

I travel alot and my experience they are polite in the sense that they get you seen to as quickly as possible. *touch wood* I'm travelling in September again and hope to have a good experience. hehe. Hope this answered your question. |

I think that for the most part they are very polite. Unfortunately with the on slot of e-tickets and self check kiosks they are also extremely overworked. i fly often and if you notice the set up is usually one or two agents to cover about 10-15 "self check kiosks" and they are responsible to help all those people at the same time, get their luggage tagged, and get you on your way in time. I find that if you are polite and patient you won't have a problem, if you are snarky or rude to them then yeah they'll probably show you some of their frustration. |

Some agents are okay, but most of them are disgruntled employees. The dissatisfaction with their jobs and employers shows through by how they treat the public with rudeness and disrespect. Too many are on a power trip and think they can rule the world by bullying airline passengers. Passengers are treated worse than cattle being herded off to slaughter.
Some are convicted criminals; so much for background checks by government officials. Most of them need lessons in how to be polite. Most of the agents are good liars; they never answer your questions straight on.
However the agents don't discriminate, they treat every customer with disdain. As service-industry employees, they are the worst of the lot.
If I have to fly, I do. If I have the option to drive instead, I will. |

Oh! The Humanity!

Mostly polite but I've met some real winners. |

Check in agents are also human beings. While the passenger has to encounter one agent at a time the agent has to meet many many passengers during his/her duty time. So it is possible that at times she/he had not behaved with you the way you think. However, airlines ensure that only courteous agents are kept in check in counters and we find them generally good. While some may not be upto the mark, some others go out of the way to help passengers. So good or bad, polite or rude are there everywhere. Some times you can meet such people in hotel receptions also. But my opinion is that check in agents should be polite and smiling always. |

I used to be related to a CSA for WestJet of Canada.
Check-In agents are the ones who have to deal with everything, the passengers that end up being deemed to dangerous to fly, the people who missed their flight, people drunk, etc.
They get way less credit then they deserve, they work realyl hard and don't get paid much, and work long hours.
I've never had a rude one, except maybe for Air Canada. |

I did this for 31 years and believe me we try to be polite..yes there are some agents who should be let go but on the whole everyone is really nice...and just FYI we don't get tips. |

Most of the times polite, only once I found a rude one, flying United from Buenos Aires to Montevideo; actually she was not the check-in agent, she was the person who asked the "security" questions. |

I have never found one to be rude, which is amazing given how much rudeness and thoughtlessness they have to put up with among the passengers. |
