3 months in Buenos Aires - how much to budget? |
Hi guys
I'm going to Buenos Aires next year for 3 months and I'm trying to work out how much to budget for. I know it's hard to say, but roughly how expensive is Buenos Aires and how much might a month cost (considering that I'm not trying to go ultra cheap)?
I'm planning to go in January, but have been told it might be too hot and humid there in January and would be better in February - what do you think?
Also what are the best things to see and do in Buenos Aires?
Thanks,
Drew |

Drew,
Interesting question. And it depends on inflation that is skyrocketing in Argentina. Can I suggest you talk to a professional consultancy like I did before travel. My recommendation would be http://www.buenosairesstay.com who has become my agency of choice. Also I'll help you if you need advice, rowlesjr@yahoo.com. If you're going cheap, you can rent an apartment from $400 a month but remember you will have to pay agency fees and a similar deposit of $200 -$400. Hostels are a bet but not the best as you get caught up in the very expensive party scene as I did. Seeing as youre not going ultra cheap and probably want more money to spend on goodies go for an apartment. Remember that there is some margin of negotiation when youre staying longer than a month. I would budget for $500- $1000 US a month excluding putting your head down. |

Try camping and preparing your own meals if you are on a budget, you will be amazed at just how much you can save. Your accommodation should cost about US$9-35 and meals about US$3-10. So surviving on US$50 a day should be easily done
Well that depends on what you are after, if it is the skiing you are after then Mid June to late September would be your best bet but if climbing and hiking is your thing then make sure you go in summer (December to February) but on the whole, any season is good for visiting Argentina. |

1- Best to be there from February to April. Even March to May
Pity you will loose the fun of the lst two weeks of December
Yes, HOT and humid. BUt always can take a breather to the beaches only 4 hours away. Good week-end escape.
2- USD1000.00 per month, is Ok, I agree.
3- You may even get a short term apartment for the three months fairly cheap.
4- Buenos Aires is NOT cheap. Except, public transport, including taxis and food.
5- Plenty to do. Buy a Frommers and/or Lonely Planet Guide and will see.
