Anybody live in Argentina? Can you help me with this question, please? |
We are an American family moving to either Montevideo or BA. We thought we wanted to live in Montevideo due to the lower crime rate etc, but the company my husband will be working for has told us it's better to live in a suburb of BA. So here are my questions.
1.) Exactly how bad is the crime in BA. I've heard it's on the level of Rio.
2.)How is the crime in the suburbs?
3.) which suburb is the best to live in?
4.) we need a bi-lingual school for our 8 year old son which is the best?
5.) if we have the guaranty from my husbands company what do you think rent would be on a 3 or 4 bedroom house?
If you can think of anything else that would be of interest to us let me know.
Thank you so much for helping out. Additional Details Vanzanak.....please elaborate on this neighborhood. Are there houses there or just apartments. I'll be need a 4 bedroom home with a yard. |

Belgrano is a nice neighborhood, but I recommend you check out La Lucila. La Lucila has an American school that I am almost certain educates in Spanish as well. The neighborhood is a quiet residential neighborhood by the river full of cute shops and restaurants. You might feel more at home in this neighborhood as there are many Americans and foreigners there as well. |

Buenos Aires Guide

From Buenos Aires Stay - http://www.buenosairesstay.com
Crime is on the increase in various barrios; however, one has to put both media reports and Porteño demonstrations into perspective and say that we feel a lot safer in Buenos Aires than we do in New York or downtown Miami. Now San Isidro and Palermo are areas where the townsfolk feel very let down by the police and Government. Our concern is that the poor are getting poorer, this current government is not tough on crime, and they are not good with their housekeeping, not least institutional corruption. There needs a lot more done on ‘responsible neighbouring’ and crime prevention in Buenos Aires - if it is not you suffering crime people do not seem to care and ignore the screams of those in trouble – not nice!
Check out our barrio descriptions:

Please email us and we will answer all your other questions, Yahoo just does not allow enough words here to answer your questions sensibly.

Forget about crime!
You will be moving anyways!
Unless you come from a small town, Montevideo is TOO small!
Buenos Aires is the choice.
Prefer to be in the City of Buenos Aires.
Agree Belgrano is a good choice as Palermo and Barrio Norte.
Belgrano gives you several excellent choices for bilingual education.
Excellent location and safe.
But mostly apartments, that are "safer" for that matter. If that is your concern.
Houses will be very expensive to rent and maintain in the city.
If not, and house with yard are your choice, you have to move North to the Pilar area. Where you will find what are called "Closed Neighbourhoods" That include, security, club-house and even schools inside.
I am sure the company transferring your husband will help you with that.
BUT, again, not to worry about safety, more than you do in the USA, unless you live in Walnut Grove!
