Assuming you don’t have any special requirement or budget:

Don’t miss:

a)Teatro Colón (Colon Theatre): one of the best theaters in South America. It’s an interesting place to go, even if you don’t like cultural tourism. More info in www.teatrocolon.org.ar

b)Recoleta neighborhood: You will find the well-known cemetery of Recoleta (with a very rich history and nice architecture) surrounded by some of the best restaurants in the city, some nightlife, cultural events and great parks to walk around. Visit http://www.info-recoleta.com for more info.

c)Puerto Madero: The new “fashion” neighborhood of the city. Great restaurants, views, nightlife, architecture, and very close to downtown. Get more info from http://www.puertomadero.com/index.cfm.

d)Football (soccer) games: You are not able to live Buenos Aires, and as a matter of fact any provinces in Argentina and even in South America without attending to, at least, one soccer match. If possible select one including River Plate, Boca Juniors, San Lorenzo, Velez or Independiente. Sadly the official web site of the Argentinean Football Association (AFA) do not have an English site, but here is the URL: http://www.afa.org.

e)Tango Shows: Again, it seems that visiting Buenos Aires without attending to a Tango show or class is like being in New York and not visiting the Empire State Building! My personal choice is Señor Tango (http://www.senortango.com.ar) but you will get a lot of info in http://www.tangodata.gov.ar. Please keep in mind that Tango, Milongas, Chacareras, and Malambos (among others) are typical Argentinean dancing styles.

f)Nightlife: Nightlife in Buenos Aires is somehow different than other cities… it starts VERY late (around 1:00 am) and could last until 10:00 am. You will find huge amounts of places to go: classic rock, rave, local music, salsa, tango, etc. Some places require special dress code, but most will just allow you to have great time and the chance to meet people. g)Polo games: Argentinean Polo is well known around the world as one of the bests. If you like to have a great time outdoors, do not hesitate to visit el Campo Argentino de Polo or any other field where this game is played. h)Shopping: Because of exchange rate (and recent economic recession and devaluation in 2001-2002) shopping is very cheap (especially if you are from Europe). You can hire shopping specialist (assistants) in most good hotels but you can do it on your own in Alto Palermo, Paseo Alcorta, Galerias Pacífico and Unicenter (this is my favorite) shopping malls.

i)Restaurants: In this city you will found superb restaurants with awesome prices! Just try one different (and do not stay in the hotel!). If you like meat do not leave without asking for “Bife de Chorizo”, “Chorizo” (pork sausage), “Molleja”, “Moricilla” (blood sausage), “Cordero Patagonico” (southern lamb). Pastas are also great as well as pizzas. If you have a chance asks for “Provoletas” or grilled provolone cheese. Ice creams are very good as well as some other disserts like “Flan” and those that have “Dulce de Leche” (caramel like jam). Try the “Alfajores” (cookies) specially those from “Havanna” brand. Finally the wine and beer are great (and cheap!). The traditional drink of Argentina is an infusion called “Mate” and some bars menus are build around this “Argentinean Tea”.

j)Tigre & San Isidro neighborhoods: They are located to the north of the city (in the so called “Gran Buenos Aires” (Great Buenos Aires)). Nice place to visit riding on bike, rollers and may be a train-trip. You will find a very nice neighborhood (in San Isidro) and interesting tours through the river in Tigre.

Marvellous place. Huge city, with broad roads, an efficient subway system and many monuments.

Do not miss: Subway (Metro) line A - the oldest underground railway outside Europe, with historical wooden cars in daily use
- Retiro with an English Tower (Torre Monumental) modeled after London's Big Ben
- Casa Rosada (Presidential Palace) and neighbouring buildings (cathedral etc.)
- Recoleta Cemetery with the grave of Evita
and many others. Good place with fancy restaurants (great steaks for reasonable prices) is in a former port - Puerto Madero ( http://www.puertomadero.com ). If you are tired from the city, you can take a train from Retiro to Tigre and then a boat along Paraná Delta. Buenos Aires is a beautiful place!!! you'll have fun!!!! enjoy it every minute there, don't forget to taste the "facturas" Argentinean pastry and the rest of the yummy food! but like Cecilia said be careful with pickpocketers, if you go out with a group that will be better! Have fun!

I lived there as a teenager.. it is one of the most fantastic cities in the world! Keep in mind the Argentines do not consider themselves 'South Americans' they are "Europeans". So they are very classy. I love everything about them. The best places to eat can be found in a shopping district LaValle and Florida are the cross streets - everyone knows this area. Also near the American Embassy in an area called Palermo there are a lot of great steak houses. For shopping there are what are called 'Hippy Fairs' aka Feria Hippi. I dont know what kind of budget or no budget you are on... there is also something that comes every fall called La Rural - it is a fair of all the finest beef on leather products in Argentina (they are famous) for it and it is a HUGE ordeal for them.. look it up.. you wont want ot miss it... great taste of food, wine and culture! Buenos Aires is a fabulous city, the Paris of South America. It's very European in design, attitudes and population.

As in Spain, France, and Italy you'll find that people eat dinner very late. Nine o'clock is usually the earliest for locals. Meat, especially beef, is the centerpiece and huge steaks are the rule.

There's also a lot of people of Italian descent and there's excellant Italian food. (Try Guido's Bar at 2843 República de la India or El Obrero at 64 Agustín R Caffarena )

For some nighttime entertainment try Acabar t 5733 Honduras for music dancing and gernal craziness.

You should go and see a tango show. There are several major venues, most of them in the San Telmo district.

I'm from Buenos Aires. When there, be careful with pickpocketers and don't make any displays of cameras, cellphones, expensive jewellery, etc, in vefy crowded places and you will be fine.

Yes! If you want nightlife, go to Opera Bay on Wednesday ("after-office"). Starts after 8pm until 3am. Best club ever!

yes at night go to the tqango clubs in the afternoon la boca isd a hip section of town, visit the cemetry, go eat a steak at a good steak house ask your hotel outside of town you can see the gauchos on a ranch

you really should have called 305-428-3836 its a company called tours gone wild, they take care of everything. hotels, food, air travel and you get a limo everywhere you go and VIP treatment. ... if its not too late call them =]
