Buenos Aires/Argentina itinerary suggestions?

I am going to Argentina for two weeks next month (July). It will be winter there, so I was wondering if this limits my options in terms of places to go and things to do? Where are some good spots to visit outside and within the city?

Winter is a good time to go to BA, but there is a midwinter school vacation that can make things a little crowded in part of July. The Argentine winter is not severe except in the mountains (but it is ski season in Bariloche and the other mountain resorts) and Patagonia.

In the Capital Calle Florida is a great pedestrian street, and Recoleta Cemetery is not to be missed. All of the tourists go to La Boca for its colorful houses, but we liked San Telmo better. Just walking around BA can be fun, and it is a good city for food and for shopping. Loved the countless cafes for really good coffee.

Outside the city, July is a great time to see Iguazu falls as it is cooler and less crowded than in summer. It is also a good time for Salta and the NW part of Argentina. If you do not want to go quite so far, take Buquebus across to Colonia in Uruguay, a great little city to spend a day or two.

I just got back from Argentina in April.

You should visit La Boca, but make sure there are men with you if you walk to the soccer stadium, the town is very dangerous. Also, visit the Casa Rosada, go eat at Siga LA Vaca (they have the best Asado and all you can eat), I would also definitely visit the cemetary where Eva Peron is buried.

There are TONS of place to shop as well. If you get the chance, take a bus down to Cordoba and/or Carlo Paz. I really liked these cities and there are tons of things to do and visit there as well. It is a 10 hour bus ride, but well worth it. There are tons of parks and little waterfalls in Cordoba and the surrounding little cities.

You can stay 6 days in Buenos AIres and then travel to Iguazu (3 days) and maybe to the Northwest for 4 days.
It depends on your budget.....
Iguazu and the Northwest are not expensive destinations and it is not so cold.

In Buenos Aires you should do:
City Tour
Tango Show
Fiesta Gaucha excursion (visit to a ranch)
Delta excursion.

I am part of a Travel Agency called Esteros Viajes. We are in Buenos Aires and we organise trip all around Argentina. If you are interested I give you our website address www.esterosviajes.com.ar

I hope that you enjoy your trip to our country....

I just got back from a week in BA, and had a really good time. The food was fabulous, the sites interesting, and the people quite friendly. Language was sometimes a little problem (not as many people spoke English as I expected, and the Spanish dialect is considerably different from what we learn in school here in the US), but we were always able to work things out.

We went on several tours arranged by Esteros Viajes (who I found on this forum before leaving - Francisco did a GREAT job setting things up for us!). I'd strongly recommend the Gaucho Ranch and the Delta Tour, also the City Tour. If you can, see if you can get Juan as a guide. Recoleta Cemetery is also not to be missed.

Weather wasn't too bad, at least not by Michigan standards, mostly in the 50's and 60's and sunny almost every day.

Have a great time!

If you like snow, take in account the possibility of visiting Bariloche, great place!

....In Winter Patagonia is not in my advises :o) So....you can spend 1 week in Buenos Aires....then by Plain (but you can also go by Bus) you can go to Salta. Then by bus to Puermamarva, Humauaca, Juy Juy, Iruya (the road to Iruya is CRAZY) but wow...super fun!! :o) This itinerary takes around 2 weeks. If you have more time you can even visit the South of Bolivia (which is GREAT)...take a 4 days tour from Tupiza to Uyuny and around and go down passing trhu North Chile and San Pedro de Atacama...I did it this year and it was great!!!....Or you can go to Rosario and Mendoza...(i'll go hiking to the Acongagua next year)...So...A lot of Options but I don't know how long you'll stay cause Argentina is big.
Have fun
