traveling to Argentina is great!!
the food is outstanding ! even though the menu choices are limited, due to the fact that every other retaurant is a "Parilla" (Argentine BBQ) . have fun eating steak, pasta and pizza. the wine selection is also a must taste.
taxis, buses and trains are cheap and plentiful inside the city and come rather quickely but are extremely full during rush hours. outside the city there is more wait time, but they are still quite available and easy to obtain.
site seeing is fun, and also a bargain. a lot of free/cheap things things to do. during the spring and summer there are fairs and park events that are free and in the fall and winter there is an abundance of shows and museum exhibits that are fantastic and cheap. and of course there are the usual tourist spots...the Pink House (which is more Salmon colored now), the Recoleta Cemetary, the Puerto, Cafes, El Tigre River, etc.
hotels are OK. if you are use to 4 and 5 star american hotels, they are hard to come by here. most 4 star hotels are actually a 3, and 5 star are actually a 4. look on www.tripadvisor.com for in put on different accomodations.
the people are nice to travelers, especially if you make the effort to speak there language. Argentine's love to talk, ask questions about the USA and gossip about what is going on around them. they are also a jealous group, so watch your words and your appearance. due to the fact that it is a have verses have not country, watch your jewlery and your wallet. |

Buenos Aires was amazing.
The only thing you have to remember is that if you live in the Northern Hemisphere, then it has the opposite climate.
But the food was amazing. Empanadas are great! And it is known for its steak, so be prepared if you don't like meat. If you like caramel you will also love it (as Dulce de Leche is like caramel and is a staple there). And if you like tea, try the mate! It's like a tea, but very custom of Argentina.
There are very few American places, but there is a McDonalds and a Hooters (haha).
Traveling is fine, and cheap. There are subways all over Buenos Aires, which make it really easy to get around. Also, it is like New York in the sense that everyone walks everywhere. But also there are buses that are like only 1 or 2 pesos (3 pesos is about 1 American dollar), and taxis that are fairly cheap.
Just make sure you know some Spanish and you will have a great time there. Any other questions just ask! |
