as the "law" goes, if you are driving in the capitol, then you are allowed to drive with an American license. if you plan on going to the outer Provinces, you will need an international license. but remember, here in Argentina laws of the road are many, just like the U.S., but UNLIKE the U.S. not too many people follow these rules, and are seldom ticketed. for example, in areas we happen to drive through that we believe are "questionable safe" , we treat stop lights like stop signs, and have never been ticketed. a couple of times a cop was sitting right there!! we have come to BA for about 15 years to visit and have never had a problem driving anywhere in BA or other Provinces with our American license , but be sure to also carry your passport.

I'd reccomend not driving in Argentina. You might as well write yourself a ticket. The cops look out for foreign drivers, especially once you get outside of the big city. If you need to go places, it is better to take a bus or fly, which seems expensive but you can really find good deals on the web for cheap local flights. Inside the city everybody uses busses and the subway, so u don't have to worry. let me know if you need any more advice on BA, i've lived there for many many years now.
