What kind of places are in Salta? What kind of foods? I'm thinking of going to Salta for vacation, but my husband says Paris is better. I want to convince him otherwise?

Salta is a wonderful place to visit for many reasons.
If you like nature, well, it's one province where you can see a wide range of natural landscapes, from the arid Puna-Prepuna to the luxuriant cloud forest, all a few hours away. There are National Parks, which may be not easy to access but are worth a visit.
If you like history, Salta is one of the places in South America where you can still see pre-Hispanic elements (aboriginal people who still live there) and early Hispanic buildings from colonial times.
The people are kind and warm (as in most of Argentina outside of the largest cities), and the exchange rate is great for you.

Oh, I was forgetting about the food! Make sure you try the original "empanadas salteñas", and also locro (a delicious stew which includes vegetables, pork meat, spices, etc), and humita (corn-based). I should add the "tamales" but I don't like them so much.
Here are some tips from wikipedia:

Cons: If you want to visit the humid selvatic areas, make sure you find out which shots are required. There are some nasty endemic fevers there.

there is this really nice hotel where you can stay at called the Hotel Ayres de Salta. There rooms are really nice and they have a restaurant and bar. http://www.ayresdesalta.com.ar/english/habitaciones.htm

here is the site. You can go into the rain forest with a tour and you can go to a museum! I think it would be fun to go
