I'm from Uruguay but....WHY DO PEOPLE ASK ME IF I'M FROM ARGENTINA WHEN I TALK!!!!!!!!!?

Uruguayos and Argentinos have a common way of pronouncing 'll' and 'y'. In English it is the same pronunciation as the second 'g' in 'garage'.

As you would know, coming from Uruguay....all your other Castallano-speaking neighbours pronounce it differently.

Because the uruguayan accent and the one of the people of Buenos Aires is the same. (Do you want me to tell you that, being my self 100% porteÃ±o, people ask me if I am from Uruguay?).

Are you really from Uruguay? Is that so, then why are you asking such a question? You know Uruguayans and Argentineans (porteÃ±os) do speak very, very similar and that only and Uruguayan or an Argentinean can tell the difference.

Does it bother you? Then, if you do not want be confused with an Argentinean from now on begin all your conversations with â€œIâ€™m from Uruguayâ€¦â€ so things will be clear from the beginning.

Uruguayans talk very much like argentinians do. You can notice the difference, but we can`t. You also use "che" expression, right? ..and drink mate.

Porque hay mas ciudadanos argentinos que uruguayos y la mayoria de las veces resulta en que la mayoria de que los extranjeros (con ese acento) son argentinos.
Por si no tenias referencia los uruguayos hablan igual que los argentinos, o viceversa. Argentina y Uruguay son los unicos paises de habla espanol con tan peculiar acento.

I'm from Peru, but while in the US people would ask me if I was from Brazil..from Brazil! can you imagine? how can you confusse spanish with portuguese? ; most americans aren't much aware of south america, most people they know come from Mexico, Cuba or Puerto Rico; so they are not much aware of the difference , they classify us as Â¨hispanicsÂ¨and that's it. I don't blame them ,though.. can you tell the difference between a chinesse and a japanesse just by looking their faces? ; I cannot, so..

You need talk of this:
candombe, pocitos, tricolores, manyas, dulce de leche, botijas, cutcsa, rosa luna, el mercado del puerto, 18 de julio, feria de tristan narvaja, el cerro, 1950, la celeste, etc, etc and
never more any person confuse your country...

Perhaps you are using an Argentinian accent. Why don't you try to speak clearly without pronouncing those ssssss so and without rolling your toungue when you speak?

Perhaps a course in pronunciation is what you need. And don't forget to a foreign ear every latin sounds like every other latin, same goes for english or german. Some think someone is from germany when in fact they are austrian.

You have the same sound. As an American I can't tell the difference. But I could tell that you're not from Paraguay or Bolivia. Your accent is very pleasing to the ear as opposed to the other South American countries. It's O.K. to sound like an Argentine as long as you don't act like one.

porque los portenos y los uruguayos tienen casi el mismo acento, ahora yo soy del interior (chubut) me doy cuenta de la diferencia, cuando pronuncian las eses pero no te hagas drama a los portenos no los quieren nadie, jajajaja
