I traveled through Buenos Aires by myself a few years ago and had no troubles at all. It was my first trip done by myself. I suggest staying in a hostel as you will meet lots of people there and can tag along with your 'new friends', but I am sure you know that already!
Here is my top 5 things to see:
Cementerio de la Recoleta - Many of Argentina's notables are buried here in this city of mausoleums, including Eva Duarte de Peron and her family.
The Obelisco - The Obelisk, Buenos Aires' famed monument is on the widest street in the world, the Avenida 9 de Julio, where among the frantic traffic, you'll get great photos, particularly at night if you're visiting restaurants and nightclubs in the area.
Casa Rosada - The Casa Rosada is the presidential palace and open to visitors in only certain areas. While you are there you can see the famous Plaza de Mayo.
Sunday Market at Plaza Dorrego - On Saturdays and Sundays, there´s always a very interesting market. You can see all types of artists like living statues, puppet shows, musicians and tango dancers and much more. There´s also shops to purchase and sell antiques. In the San Telmo neighborhood. Cool street performers too.
La Boca - the poor, but brightly painted suburb (famed for its football team) makes for great pictures. Don't go here at night by yourself!
There are some free guided tours and you can see the details here - http://www.bue.gov.ar/recorridos/index.php?menu_id=17&info=visitas - The guided tours offered by the Entity of Tourism of Buenos Aires are free. Tourists walk around the city to view the architecture, historic and commercial attractions of each neighborhood. |

Here are a few tips from your friends at "Buenos Aires 4 U" for those of you who want a real Argentine experience in and Around Buenos Aires:
-- Gauco Party: This gives you the chance to see a real Argentine estancia and see what it was like being a gaucho. Great food, great music, and a lot of fun! Definitely something that not everybody experiences when they come here.
-- Tango Show: I'm not talking about the overly touristy shows or the free ones they put together in the street. If you go to BA, the birthplace of tango, you need to see a real, professional tango shows at an one of the old-school estancias around the city. Also, nothing compliments tango better than a great dinner and a fine glass of malbec wine!
--Tigre: This is where the porteños go on weekends. It's beautiful, with the river and the delta. The boat rides are incredible and romantic, and the crafts fair is authentic and reasonably priced. This is perfect for a breath of fresh air away from the big city, and it is so easy to get to.
Can anybody think of anything else? And of course, let me know if you have any questions!
Cheers! |
