Hola, Mi Buenos Aires Querido!

Buenos Aires is a wonderful place and it is much safer than the previous post leads on. I highly recommend purchasing a "Time Out Buenos Aires" guide book, one of the best around.

You will love Buenos Aires and the Portenos- which are what folks from BA are called.

The city is very easy to travel around by Radio Taxi- make sure to take Radio Taxis only..You will be able to tell them by their Black and Gold Cars.

The Recoletta area is considered the nicest and most posh of the neighborhoods in BA. The Cemetario de Recoletta is also a really nice area and tourist attraction.

The Buenos Aires design center is also located close by the Cemetario.

I highly recommend the Loi Suites chain of hotels.

As to Attractions:

Do not miss the Sunday market in San Telmo- It is a great time and beautiful area. My wife loves to pick up antiques down in that area often. San Telmo is also where you would go to watch a Tango show.

The other popular spots are nice; Casa Rosada, Oblique, Puerto Madero area, and the Embassy area is also nice stroll and neighborhood.

The main Galleria and Bull Patio for shopping malls.

Florida Avenue for discounts and flea market style shops- very high pressure area but good bargains to be found.

Restaurants-
Cabana Las Lilas is by far the most famous steak house in the country and well worth it.

Bar Uriche and Bar 6 are also very hip spots, similar to Mint, but very local.

For Sports/ Soccer fans- Loco Por El Futbol- is Maradonna's restaurant/ bar and its located right in Recoletta plaza, definitely a place to go considering Copa Mundial (World Cup) is right around the corner.

Obregon and some of the other restaurants right by the Four Seasons hotel and under the Nuevo de Julio street.

Buenos Aires is one of the leading cities in Latin America and well worth a visit. According to Yahoo1 Travel, the most popular attractions are:

1. Barrio de San Telmo
2. Avenida Alvear
3. Obelisco
4. Puerto Madero
5. Teatro Colon
6. Camanito
7. Fragata Escuele Presidente Sarmientio
8. Museo de Arte Latinoamericano
9. Torre Monumental
10. Bosques de Palermo

As to sdafety, the British Embassy notes that bagsnatchings are the most common crime in Argentina. While kidnapping has become more common, tourists are not neccessarily targets. They warn people to keep alert but note that most visits occur without incident. The risk does not appear high enough to deter you from visiting if you wish.

I am Australian and went there a few years ago when I was 25, by myself. It was totally amazing. I didn't speak any Spanish and knew nothing much at all, but out of the dozens of countries I have been to in the last few years it is definitely the best country and BA, the best city.

I can't recommend enough how good the whole country is with all its diversity. Don't forget to check out nearby cities like Bariloche and visit areas like Iguazu and The Pampas.

Kidnapping is a Colombian and Venezuelan problem, not Argentina. Like any country, there is crime, but nothing happened to me or anyone else I knew who went there.

It´s the best. I live in Buenos Aires and now you have the advantage of the exchange rate. You have many places to visit.

Buenos Aires is a great place to visit. Kindnapping and things like that didn´t happen to tourists. I was there 10 days ago and the city is Fantastic, each year when I came back you find something new.
I could recommend a B&B in Palermo - for me is one of the best neighbours of Buenos Aires,-
www.posadapalermo.com
Also if you have time please visit: San Isidro, Martinez and Delta del Tigre.
For lunch: I recommend Palermo Soho ( It´snot like Soho NY) but it´s has lots of restaurants with open places where you can east or have a beer.
At night: please visit Palermo Hollywood.
If you would like to eat please go to "Kansas" Restaurant .
Address: Del Libertador, Av. 15089
Also a great place to visit is : FAENA HOTEL in Puerto Madero, where you could find lot of sofistication that the one you find in Europe.
And of course take a walk along Puerto Madero fill of restaurants and bars.
For shopping: take a cab to Unicenter Mall (U$S 10) and you will find all you need at very good prices also near the B&B in Palermo you could visit ALTO PALERMO ( for me the most beautifull mall in the city)

Please don´t miss the opportunity to visit Buenos Aires because I´m sure you ´ll love it!

It's an excellent place to visit, specially now that the exchange rate is so beneficial whether you earn in U$D, € or £.
If you like the beach, I'd recommend you to go from Dec to March as well as if you want to visit Ushuaia or Antarctica. If you would rather go skiing, June-Aug are the best months to travel. "Las Leñas", "Bariloche" & Chapelco are very nice ski resorts.
To visit Buenos Aires, I'd go in April/May or October/November when the weather is not extremely warm but nice and mostly sunny.
Regarding the kidnappings, unfortunately those things happen to rich local people. They know the whole family and their movements and by kidnapping one them, they can get whatever amount of money they want in order to give her/him back alive.
Good luck and I hope you have a great trip.
