Is it expensive to go to Buenos Aires Argentina?

I am from the USA and I'm planning a 2 week trip to Aregentina. It is still a favorable exchange rate?

1- The USA/ARG flight is quite reasonable these days, taking into account the miles involved (8800 from MIA and 10500 from NYC)
2- Expect to pay about USD485.00 from MIA and USD1032.00 from NYC
3- Do not forget to enrol (before departing!) on the airline frequent flier programme.

see the following for latest deals to EZE/Buenos Aires:
http://www.airfarewatchdog.com/InternationalAirfare/tabid/171/AirportId/341/Default.aspx

4- Apart from that life can be inexpensive, but NOT as much as 2 years ago or even last year. Somethings you will find them even more expensive than in the USA

5- Hostels:

http://www.hostelworld.com/countries/argentinahostels.html?source=googleadwordscountry&gclid=CNSOnqP405UCFRKAxgodxC9p7w

6- Within the country, you will find land travel via bus, inexpensive, but trips are long.
Not much train service available and air fares are expensive and some-times quite unreliable.

7- Bring your credit card and debit card (leave numbers and copies of all documents at home just in case)

8- If in need you can receive funds via Western Union (have their own stores) and/or Money Gramme (works with local banks.

Enjoy!

the plane tickets are very expensive, you should start watching over the websites to see when the rates at the lowest at least a few months before your trip. Buenos Aires is fairly cheap still, but things still cost more. a big mac is $5? In Argentina, its 14 or 15 pasos, so even though its 3 to 1, things still cost more in pasos.

It depends on how much you like to spend for vacation. The most expensive thing for me was the airfare. I tend to go cheap by staying in hostels, taking public transportation, and eating at modest places. That said, not only is the exchange rate 3:1 but the average price of food and souvenirs was cheaper than what I would pay at home. The most expensive meals were those that cost the same as home. However, I do not really consume expensive things so be aware of that (plus I'm a vegan so no steak dinners for me). My friend ate meat and ordered whole bottles of wine and said those meals were good deals and he's a cheap person like me. The taxis were very reasonable. I took them on a regular basis because they were cheap and reliable. Whereas the taxis in a neighboring country I avoided due to their high price.

Yes, there is still a favorable exchange rate but there is also inflation. Many residents of Buenos Aires are trying to make more money and tourists can get caught up. The most economical way to visit Buenos Aires includes: renting an apartment instead of staying in overpriced hotels, (I recommend http://www.buenosairesstay.com ), shopping in the smaller supermarkets - not brand names like Jumbo and Carrefour, taking the subway and buses instead of taxi's that have recently raised their fares and not tipping excessively. Tips are not the norm here and are not necessary except in the case of superior service. If you are interested in a tour, I suggest using a private tour guide instead of larger companies, Mercedes Arando is excellent and can be contacted at mercedesarando@gmail.com. Finally, if you like to eat out, try finding restaurants in the more traditional neighborhoods such as Caballito and Villa Crespo where the prices are more reasonable.

I found $972US on staressentials.net which would be for two weeks in October. Depending on when you want to go it would most likely be cheaper when it doesn't coincide with any holidays. Usually regardless of when you are going, unless you really have to buying airline tickets on fridays and the weekend are usually more expensive than buying during the week. Good luck!!!

It's still 3 to 1.

Besides the air ticket, everything will be really cheap for you.
Enjoy your stay in Buenos Aires

Yes, the exchange rate is about 3:1, but costs for other things compared to the US are all over the board. For example, taxi and bus service can be much less expensive than here; on the other hand, food and goods like clothing seem to be pretty comparable, while lodging can be downright cheap. The tipping practices are kind of strange compared to ours, but can also contribute to saving a fair amount of money. I took a few tours & excursions, and found them to be quite reasonable as well. In-country airfare, as well as airfare to get to Argentina from the US is pretty steep (and the trip is brutal), but the country is fascinating and well worth visiting. Have a great trip!

Argentinean Economy Situation is really strange. Inflation is around 20%/25% (the official newspaper of course say 9%...but the main economists say 20%) per year but the exchange rate Vs US$ is still 3. That's abnormal and I think in 1 or 2 year the peso risk to colapse at 4 Vs US$.

The cost of the life in the average is cheaper than in USA or EU. All the imported goods are more expensive ! Hitech is more expensive than in EU or in USA. Furnitures are less expensive. Restaurant is less expensive. Food at the Market....it depends. If you go to the Easy is just CRAZY....if you go to Disco it's ok.
Anyway if you pay attention you pay 2/3 times less than in USA...

Have a great vacation
