I lost my debit card and my bank provider (wells fargo) is going to send me another one, in the mean time, I would have to somehow find a way to cash a check here in Argentina.

What bank was your card with? What bank is your checking with? CALL your bank in the states and ask if they have a partner bank in Argentina and if they do, what bank it is. If they do have a partner bank, you could go to one of their branches and probably cash a check. That works here in Mexico. Do you have a credit card or American Express card with you? If you do, you can Call them and ask for a PIN number, then you can use that card in an ATM machine toget a cash advance from the card.
