First of all, girls like American people. Careful, though, if too many girls like you the guys won't.

Some are offended by us Americans because of our wealth and involvement around the globe, so stay out of politics.

Other than that, you have to pick a soccer team. Learn about River and Boca, the countries two biggest soccer teams. Everybody knows them and if you know about them they will be impressed by you. You can win alot of friends that way. On top of that, there is soccer all of the time, so play with them or watch games with them. If you wear a River or Boca jersey, be prepared to be cheared at or have profanities shouted at you.

Compliment them on their food and tell them you love their Asado, but eating "tripa and rinones make you sick". :)

Always have change because sometimes it's hard for them to break a 10 or 20 peso bill.

Really, the Argentines are pretty laid back. Just stay out of bad neighborhoods, though. Crime is pretty bad.

This is a good start!! I am not from Argentina but just keep asking questions in this section and asking to contact peple from there. But remember; when you meet people over the net, things could be dangerous so if you finally meet someone here in yahoo answers and you connect with them, ask them to meet you in a public place in Buenos Aires and dont take for granted everyone is nice just because you've met them on the net!! Sorry but there are lots of weirdos on the net.

Hi! I'm from Argentina, and let me tell you that as soon as you get Argentina, you'll make lots of friends. Here people is kind, and specially with foreign people...
I also think you should keep on asking and answering in this section, to have dialogs with natives!!
Best wishes!

I think you should keep on asking and answering here in Yahoo, and also try to ask a girl her e-mail to chat by msn. In Argentina, it's really very popular msn...
I recommend you this hotel, in the centre of Capital Federal, Buenos Aires, for the time tou'll spend here.
Bye (an argentinian answering)!

You will have NO problem at all making friends as soon as you arrive in Argentina.

Plus I imagine that if for a year, you have a plan either to travel or study.
