The standards of medicine and health care services in Buenos Aires are generally very high in the private sector, doctors are well-trained, although I must add that I have been unhappy with some of the more established and so-called experienced doctors whose medicine most definitely required up-dating.

In an emergency, you must dial 107 (public care) to get an ambulance and therefore, you should at least be able to describe where you are staying.

Well, public health is a disaster, but if you are dying they will save your life. That's all.Well maybe not so dramatic but something like that.
There is very good private hospitals with relative cheap prices (a consultation for example could cost 50 dolars or less) .The best private hospital in BA is Sanatorio Mater dei
(www.sanatoriomaterdei.com.ar) or Clinica Suizo Argentina
(www.cymsa.com.ar) .But you can see a travel insurance called Assist Card (www.assistcard.com) that is good but you have to contact before you come here. Check in the website. Or check the insurance that gives your credit card.

In case of an emergency, you can be sure that you'll be very well taken care of, because of the great level of doctors. However, I suggest you hire a company that offers you private health care (maybe assistcard.com), 'cause public hospitals are not in the best shape. A consult usually cost less than 50 dollars).
