Study Abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina for this upcoming summer? |
I am an American and I really want to go to another country, (i have my eyes set on Argentina) this upcoming summer. I want to learn a language. I know I am only going to speak a language fluently if i immerse myself w/i an environment in which people only speak that language.
I have taken French all my life, but I am extremely confident I can pick up Spanish, as i am a fast learner and i have complete determination and faith in myself.
I am currently a senior in high school, so I will be 18 by the time i arrive in Buenos Aires and when my summer vacation is over i will have to go back to America to attend my University. (I want to leave sometime in June) i want to leave immediately after my high school graduation.
I hope to only return to America to attend my university.
Does anyone have any good suggestions or programs that can provide me with an opportunity that i have drawn out?
I do not want to be part of a program that would confine me and set a strict schedule. I want to perhaps stay with a host family, explore Buenos Aires freely and the rest of Argentina. Rest assured i have every intention of treating my host family (if this should occur) with the utmost respect and abiding by their rules. I believe staying with a host family would greatly benefit me as i would have someone to converse with (in Spanish)
I also would like to take a language class (if possible...I'm sure it is)
but i am totally open to suggestion.
Thank you very very much...i hope to hear some great responses soon
THANKS A MILLION!!! |

Argentina is a great place to visit but the only problem I see is that if you learn Spanish therem you will learn a type of spanish which is only spoken in Argentina. Grammar is different from the rest of spanish spoken elsewhere and so is the accent. If you want to learn really good spanish go to either Peru or Colombia where the most pure spanish is spoken according to the Royal Academy of the spoken language. |

It I were you I would come to Buenos Aires independently. If you have a friend or something is even better. The first thing you have to do is DECIDE that you want to come an then decide WHEN (I did that). Then you find a place to live for that time(very important). There are many places to find a place to live, for example www.buenosairesstay.com is a good one. THen, once you are here you can make your own schedule, etc.Find a private spanish teacher, etc! good luck! |

I'm considering the same thing and the same country!
I've visited already and can say that its a great place to get any type of education .
I would recommend Buenos Aires, but also if you want a more predominantly "native Argentine experience" you should visit Cordoba located in central Argentina .
That city is very school oriented and has many opportunities for learning Spanish as a second language and the renown Cordoba University .
Good luck with all your plans !
And I wish I had your bravery and motivation ! |

get ready to see the largest italian community/desendants outside of italy
and the spanish you learn in argentina has a strong italian influence, so dont expect spanish that you hear in the states from the mexican immigrants |
