Where is the best place to go (touist) in Buenos Aires?

You will love Buenos Aires and the Portenos- which are what folks from BA are called.

The city is very easy to travel around by Radio Taxi- make sure to take Radio Taxis only..You will be able to tell them by their Black and Gold Cars.

The Recoletta area is considered the nicest and most posh of the neighborhoods in BA. The Cemetario de Recoletta is also a really nice area and tourist attraction.

The Buenos Aires design center is also located close by the Cemetario.

I highly recommend the Loi Suites chain of hotels.

As to Attractions:

Do not miss the Sunday market in San Telmo- It is a great time and beautiful area. My wife loves to pick up antiques down in that area often. San Telmo is also where you would go to watch a Tango show.

The other popular spots are nice; Casa Rosada, Oblique, Puerto Madero area, and the Embassy area is also nice stroll and neighborhood.

The main Galleria and Bull Patio for shopping malls.

Florida Avenue for discounts and flea market style shops- very high pressure area but good bargains to be found.

Restaurants-
Cabana Las Lilas is by far the most famous steak house in the country and well worth it.

Bar Uriche and Bar 6 are also very hip spots, similar to Mint, but very local.

For Sports/ Soccer fans- Loco Por El Futbol- is Maradonna's restaurant/ bar and its located right in Recoletta plaza, definitely a place to go considering Copa Mundial (World Cup) is right around the corner.

Obregon and some of the other restaurants right by the Four Seasons hotel and under the Nuevo de Julio street.

** The post below obviously can not read properly. I state the "Recoletta area is considered the nicest and most posh" -which is the case and there is not a single Porteno that would say otherwise. The place for the "swankiest" are is Palermo Soho or Hollywood, as they are called, are both more hip and are the neighborhoods where several of the resaurants are located.

The Kilkenny is an Irish bar and is amazing on St. Patrick's Day (March 17). Other nights it is also good....I think Wednesday or Thursday was particularly fun.

There is so much to do in Buenos Aires, nobody could possibly list all the attractions. It depends on your interests. It is a 24 hour city. The nightlife starts around midnight and continues until 7 or 8 am.

I take slight issue with RunTex in his claim that La Recoleta is the swankiest area. I think most people would claim that Palermo is the swankiest bario. Palermo has great nightlife and great restaurants.

My personal hilights of Buenos Aires were seeing an opera in Teatro Colon (magnificent place). I saw a SuperClassico (the derby between Boca Juniors and River Plate) at La Bombanera. I didn't particularly care for the bario La Boca (I thought it was a bit run down), but the atmosphere was incredible. The next week I went to El Monumental to see River Plate play Velez Sarafield (can you tell I'm a soccer nut?). I stayed in a suburb just to the north of the city itself called San Isidro. It is a very nice place.

If you have a day to kill, take the ferry across the River Plate to Colonia, Uruguay. I only spent one day in Colonia, but it was one of the hilights of my stay. It has really incredible 16th century Spanish architecture.

The thing that impressed me most about Buenos Aires was the food. If you are a vegetarian, don't bother, it is a beef eater's paradise. I've been to many countries, but Argentina BY FAR has the best food. The bife de chorizo is the best meal I have ever had in my life.

I can't really comment on the shopping because it is not a subject that interests me. There are a lot of stores on Avenida Florida (a pedestrian only street), a huge shopping mall in Palermo, and an open air market in San Isidro. There are arts and crafts on sale in La Boca. Beyond that, I'm the wrong guy to ask.

Buenos Aires is definitely in my top three in terms of favorite world cities. The only negative is I would be careful about where I go after dark. You will be fine in the city center of Palermo, but I would not want to be in Las Villas Miserias on the western edge after dark. Just use common sense and you'll be fine.
