Where should I go on my Vacation - Barcelona, Rio or Buenos Aires ?

All 3 places have their strong points. Please keep in mind that my opinion stated here is based on my travels there and my professional opinion as well(I am Owner of a Travel Agency):

1-Barcelona. The city is refined; by that, I mean that the Spanish culture there is very prevalent. The people there are very friendly, the cuisine is excellent, and there are quite a few places to visit if the urge to tour within and outside the Barcelona city limits hits you. A must place to go if you have family who want to go on an European vacation, or if you're not really into the partying scene.

2- Rio De Janeiro. Popular with the young crowd. If you like to party(especially during Carnival), then this is the place for you. That aside, you'll find Spanish/some European influences there should you go there for sightseeing. Not to mention that the USD goes far there, as well.

3- Buenos Aires. Similar to Barcelona, except that European influence can be felt there. Spanish influence is prevalent there, but immigration from Europe to Brazil, Argentina, and the other adjacent South American countries allows for a more diverse feel culturally. Not really a party town like Rio, although that's not to say that if you're looking for one that you won't find one.

So to summarize, if your vacation has partying high on the agenda, then Rio De Janeiro is the place to go. If you want a more traditional vacation(tours, sightseeing, explore native cultures), then Barcelona and Buenos Aires(in that order of preference and recommendation) would be your best bets.

Why go there? Stay inthe USA and go to Maui. The beaches are tons better

Hello there!
If your are looking for fun, your place is Rio or Barcelona. If you are looking for an absolutely different city in the world, then I think you ought to visit Buenos Aires.
If you need asistance in BA, take a look at www.visitbuenosaires.com.ar and www.argentinavoyage.com.ar
Cheers!

Where do you live? In the US: go to Barcelona. In Europe: go to Rio!

I have been to all three and they are all great places but if you gave me the choice it would be Rio!

Such a vibrant funloving exciting sexy wonderful city. I think you've got to enjoy beach life to get the best from Rio though. If you're not happy messing about in the water then it may have limited appeal.

I don't know what your budget is, but I rented an apartment on Copacabana beach for only £100 for ten days - that's $180 and it was perfectly adequate with a small living room and separate bedroom and bathroom and air conditioning. If you stay in a four star hotel you would pay that much for one night and get a small room! Next time, I would spend more and stay in the back streets behind Ipanema and Leblon which is slightly more upmarket and more local.

Buenos Aires is also a wonderful city - love the Italian quarter - its very arty and picturesque and the people are incredibly beautiful with faces of real character and distinction. Buenos Aires would probably be a more sophisticated holiday - fine wines to be drunk, amazing beef to be tasted and lots of galleries and arts to be viewed.

The ideal holiday would combine Rio and BA and flights between the two are easy and fairly cheap 3 hours and about £70 each way (cheapest) GOL is the Brazilain low cast carrier that has some international destinations of which one is BA.

Lucky you.

Enjoy
