Why are argies so arrogant?? No offense in anyway just curious?

"PorteÃ±os" (those who were born in Buenos Aires) were historically arrogant, because Buenos Aires port was one of the most important ports of Southamerica.As a matter of fact, PorteÃ±o means literally "From the port".

Most goods and merchandises entered Argentina through the port (And still enter Argentina through Buenos Aires).
So it was a powerful city...
Buenos Aires had always been and known as "the most European city of Southamerica", and in my oppinion, itÂ´s been a huge mistake to grow up as a city (therefore as a society) trying to look up to Europe and the States.So much so that, when I was a child back in the 80Â´s I remember people wearing , for example, pins of many flags around the world instead of our own flag.
I was born and currently live in Buenos Aires and whenever IÂ´m abroad ,it makes me really sad to hear "Oh, are you REALLY from Argentina?? youÂ´re not arrogant at all!".Unfortunately, we have to put up with the poor image some PorteÃ±os had left behind.But weÂ´re not all the same, thatÂ´s for sure.

Like in every other subject you will find one of every kind.
Sometimes I feel misjudge 'cause I'm Argentinian and people just assume that I'm arrogant and I don't know what else.
I say: don't judge Argentinians get to know them!
I been living abroad for a long time now, I also had to learn how to appreciate other cultures and so many different people, don't care where are they from, 'cause I got to know them.

I'm from Argentina, and I think it's only the people who get to travel abroad that make that impression on you people that we're all the same. But most of us are not like that stereotypical Argentinian. Once I met some Mexican guys, who came to my town, Santa Fe, and they said they had to change their idea of us Argentinians, when they saw that most of us weren't like that.

BTW, my father has never been out of the country. So he has a similar stereotypical idea that all Americans are ignorant. That's the image 'for export' that every country creates of itself.

I think it is a bit of a cliche, and as such there is some truth to it. Maybe it is because we consider ourselves more "educated" than our fellow latin americans. Maybe it is because of the successes and good things weÂ´ve had in the past, that went into our heads...Maybe it is because in reality we are quite insecure.
However, I do think our culture is a really interesting one to get to know, and quite misterious as well... and that "arrogance" which is such sometimes but sometimes it is something else can be then taken as "part of our idiosincracy", just like the Brits are polite or the Italians are friendly and get to see that there is more to us than just that...

not all argentines are arrogant, primarily those from Buenos Aires, known as PorteÃ±os. Probably because they have been taught they're europeans and the country is rich, chock full of educated people. And the city reflects it. But it doesnt explain how they go from one disaster to another. anyway, the usual joke regarding argentines asks: what's the best investment? buy an argentine for what he's worth and sell him (or her i guess) for what they think they're worth.

Why do people tend to ask this over and over again?...
Like someone else said.. NOT ALL argentinians are arrogant.. and of course.. most of them tend to come from Buenos Aires... but there's people that believe they are the best of the country just because at one time or another they had more than the rest.. (adn to those i ask what are they doing in the US if they were so rich in Argentina?)
I'm from Argentina too, i was born in Rio ***** and i had contact with many of those type... we don't like them either.. because of what they think they are... because why they makes us all look the same.. and that's why many people just HATE us so bad... but i think there's really good people from the same country, that deserve respect like everyone else...
so don;t think all of us are like that.. cause ur losing the chance to meet someone worth as a person...

As a fellow â€œArgentinoâ€ I agree with Kalvaina 100%. We think that we are the over educated European City in South America. Iâ€™ve been asked the same question.

Americans are more arrogant than Argentines. maybe Argentines were arrogant 5 years ago, but now they know that they are the same as the rest of latin america.

Well, it's a very interesting question... you see, I'm from Argentina and it kills me when I go abroad and see how much more polite, nice and humble people are.
I know I might sound like a traitor, but my compatriots are indeed arrogant. And the only reason I can think of (and it's a very lousy one) is that when our peso was 1 on 1 with dollars most people thought they could buy the world. So, they became arrogant. Now that the peso is so devaluated they've become... resentful.
It's a shame, but that's how I see things.

REALLY? Is this your experience? I am from the US, living in Argentina and I don't find them to be arrogant. In Buenos Aires, as is to be expected, they are "city people." You know, the kind you might find in New York or Boston or Tampa ... they might even call themselves arrogant but I don't think so, not as much as most western europeans that I have met.
