Evan

Why are there so many random police checkpoints along Argentine roads?

I've encountered about 12 so far in the one week since I've been here.

Because Argentina has a lot of provinces (24) and every province has it´s own police so in the limit between the provinces you will see some police checkpoints.
Also you will see checkpoint in routs where lots of truck travel with production. They must be weighed in some places to let them drive, and also they must show from where do they bring the products.

Just security reasons. Especially at the entrance/exit of the towns next to the border with another country.
