Samian's Sixth Account

Why have Argentine women historically been so successful in politics?

I've read about your country's leaders, such as the gorgeous Eva Perón, Isabel Perón (first female head of state and government in the Western Hemisphere), and your current president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner...and I believe all of them have come from working-class backgrounds!

What makes Argentina's womens' movement and women's rights culture so powerful? I mean, it's the 21st century and us Americans unfortunately couldn't even get one woman elected president yet, but you have such notable women for many generations!

Why is this so?

Evita was not president, she was Domingo Peron wife(first lady) .
She was a relevant figure because that goverment arrive with socialistic ideas in a country in bad shape and both were very carsmatic .
Isabel Peron was vice president when Peron dies and she asume the presidency, was a disaster .
Now Cristina was voted instead her husband .
I don't know why but may be there are more political participation.
there are many women figures besides that , Carrio , las abuelas de Plaza de Mayo. May be , may be not.
Now the fact you mentionated about working class background is may be cause in argentina you can study for free. In that aspect you feel better than in USA, cause if you are smart you will be able to go to college, and the level of the education is excelent!! from high school to Universities way better than USA.

But Argentina avoid the slavery before anybody in this continent (the whole America), and that is a more relevant political issue.

With "The Kirchner" this country dies of hungry. since than her husband started the legislation this is deteriorated.
The Argentinians voted wrong.

Evita, she was one excellent president. Peron without Evita don't is was nothing .

Good Luck.

Diego from Argentina.
