Well, after giving most of you a thumbs down, with the exception of a few, because YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!! I will give you a few facts to ponder.

FACT:
The income disparity China compared to the USA is roughly equal. In fact, the lowest is exactly the same and the highest China edges out the USA by 3 percentage points.

FACT:
China exports 21% of it exports to us. If all of a sudden the USA closed all imports from China, China would be hurt, but not mortally, and would just find new WORLD MARKETS.

FACT:
The USA has military bases all over the world to hold onto its power. (how disingenuous) while China and almost no other countries has.

FACT:
According to a congressional study in 2005, the USA exports 35% of the world arms, while China exports 3%. Some independent studies put the USA share at 50% and I've seen questionable studies that put it at over 60%.

FACT:
Bill Gates and Warren Buffet both say this is China's century and Buffet said 4 years ago the China economy would surpass the USA by 2050. A year ago he revised that down to 2025.

FACT:
China has gone through a series of 5 year plans that have gotten them to this point. Those plans are available to the public, even you can find them on several web sites. The USA, however doesn't plan and if you ask a person in the states what the USA future plans are you'll get a deer in the headlights stare. The only plans I know of in the states are Cheney's energy plan and that was held in secret. (so much for China being the leader of secrecy)

And the final FACT:
Communism and capitalism are polar opposites. China could be the most capitalistic system on the planet.

In my opinion
The biggest ally the Chinese have is they plan for the future. Our biggest enemy is we don't. So we have to strong arm the world to get what we want.

As for corruption, one answerer is right, it has nothing to do with communism or democracy. It's the people. Corruption exists everywhere even in America: the lobbying groups, the elitist groups, just look at the recent Abramoff case.

But anyways, China's rise doesn't depend on America's fall, it's two separate things, won't go thru too much since you're a troll.

It is almost funny to hear a Chinese talk about bad ruling. Do you know your history? Do you think that China will do well without the US? You need to realize that this is not a foot race. The important winners are the people. There are so many poor people in China and the only winning that counts is when more people live well. I hope that China continues to prosper but do not count on America falling.

China will rise for sure. But America doesn't have to fall. The 21st century is gonna be dominated by multiple super powers. America will still be one of them, plus China, Russia, India(maybe?) and Brazil.

@andychenap: Corruption has little connection with communism. Back in the 50's-70's, although there was less freedom in China, there was no corruption either. A good example is India, who claims itself World's Largest Democracy. However, corruption there is even worse than in China. You can even bribe immigration officers at the Indian airports, openly! Did I mention democratized Iraq and Afghanistan? You can find even more of these democracy-with-severe-corruption cases in south America and Africa. World's least corrupted government is in Singapore. However, Singapore is only a 30% democracy(daddy assigned son to be the premier minister).

Communism or Democracy... Corruption really has little to do with either of them.

I don't think America will fall. It will stay where it is. China may rise but it shouldn't be a threat to the US.

I think you are looking at things in a very simplistic way. Sure, America's economy is not doing that great in the past few months or even years but it is still ahead in terms of middle class and luxury. Don't judge everything based on what you see on the news. People should come and live in America and immerse themselves in the society and you would know what I mean. There are a lot of things in other countries that only the nouve rich could afford or even lay their sights on but in America, luxurious things are not out of reach. Just click your mouse and order it on the internet. People's idea of fun is still yatching and camping with their recreational vehicles that costs anywhere from $20,000 to $1 million. I have not seen this lifestyle anywhere in the world yet. And maybe, just maybe you shouldn't judge a country's rise and fall or even status just in terms of material wealth either.

Bad ruling in USA!? You should find out more about China. Over 10,000 coal miners killed in accidents last year alone. Corruption runs rampant! AIDS is epidemic and government suppresses all figures. Natural resources expected to decrease by 50% within one decade.

No, China will never be a superpower...they will be the rest of the worlds toy makers as long as they depend on others for technology and resources.

China has good schools...but does not allow the 'free' thinking and research that are absolutely vital for innovation to occur. Their blocking of internet sites is proof. So China will always depend on others to invent things, then copy them.

Well, I don't know about a Chinese empire but it's natural progression. China is a supplier of everything and is the world's tertiary industry. The rest of the Western world is a primary industry and things have got to change because we can't all expect one country to supply the world's needs. If China does overtake America economically, then America will have to become more tertiary and start making things again instead of using them.

First and foremost, the Chinese citizens must learn how to behave and act civilize before trying to brag about taking over. Learn also how to make safe products for the world including your own country's food and toys. One more thing, try not to kill anymore female babies!! You are surely an ignorant Chinese. I agree that if America is in recession, China's economy will have somewhat affect because majority of China's export goes to US. Yes, I agree that China put most of their money on development of cities in China while America is putting billion of dollars into Iraq and Afghanistan. That's why you see so much controvertial in budget in America because state and federal government don't have much money. Recently, the state of Illinois where I live in have a big controvertial over budget for transportation for the state and I think the state could barely pay out to keep the CTA(Chicago Transit Authority) running for repair and operation. In turn to China, the city of Guangzhou where I was born had many development over time, that is the effect of economic booming in China. They are introducing more policies for health care and helping out the poors. The city's development became more modernize because they want to become more competitative and they have enough money to do that, In fact, the province of Guangdong because one of the top GDP cities in China. You see, if more money can use on people's life, much more difference can make on people's standard. Not that I'm against America, but I think America's money pour into Iraq and Afghanistan is a bit waste, those money can use on improving people's lives. Fortunately,
America still have that huge federal reserve to operate the country so that is why America still can stand the recent subprime woes, but I just dont think the state can handle any risk and it may hurt the state residents when taxes raises when the government is in recession

To Southerner, are you sure theres no corruption in China? I think you seriously lack of understanding towards them. When its media is all shut doesn't mean that there is no corruption there.. I'm a Chinese and I know how bad the situation there. So please don't just base on theory and apply to all.. All books and no play makes you a dull boy..

To the big spender, nobody has mentioned that whether they have got to do with the system or not, but guess u misinterpret my comments. I'm particularly talking about CHINESE COMMUNIST GOVERNMENT. If indeed the "Chinese empire" does rise then many more countries have something to fear than just the U.S. I live in China and I wouldn't exactly call the people here and especially the government, civilized. But it's nice to see you don't lack self confidence. LOL

It's interesting to talk about "American Falling" and "China Rising" at the same time. Actually these two events are not necessarily related. A rising China won't cause the America to collapse, a falling America won't do any good to China's economy.

Instead, let's talk about these two topics separately.

1. America Falling.
Fact, America has military bases all over the world to protect its national interests. Fact, America is currently the only country who started and got deeply involved in two major ongoing wars(sorry, i don't wanna call them invasions).....Let's just face it, America IS an empire, who holds the strongest military power in human history...Unfortunately , human history also tells us: No Empire Can Last Forever. All empires collapse eventually: Greece, Rome, Mali, Songhai, Mongonl, Tokugawaw, Gupta, Khmer, Spanish, Dutch,Austrian, French, British, Soviet, you name them, they all fell, and most within a few hundred years. I don't wanna make any prediction. But HISTORY DOES REPEAT ITSELF. It's just a matter of time.

2. China Rising
This is a New and Old topic.
NEW: it was brought up only in the last 2 decades with China's booming economy.
OLD: this is not the first time this vast country RISES. In the past 2k years, unlike other empires (i.e. Greek, Rome), China is the only country that survived each attack/collapse and then thrived again ... and again and again. i.e. In 221 BC, the Qin conquered all other states and formed the first "Empire" in China. Over the next two millenniums, the pattern of dynasties falling and rising continued, but civilization was never severely disrupted. China is world's oldest living civilization. And in a big part of human history, Chinese dynasties were world's only super powers in its time. After the falling of China's last empire, Qing Dynasty, in early 1900's, I wouldn't be surprised to see this country rises again 100 years later. But this time, it's a little bit different--A red China that you has never seen before. Will history repeat itself ...again?? i guess we'll see.
