Big P

Another good question....?

Is it true that the more educated and successful people are the less interest they have in reading and understanding the Holy Bible?and the more poorer and uneducated people are the higher their interest or desire to read the Bible and get closer to God?

What do you think?

sometimes ignorance could cleverly disguise itself as wisdom.

i personally believe, that the more intelligent a person is, the clearer the realization that he doesnt know much - this humility, eventually will lead him to seek Providence

but you may have a point, some people who consider themselves helpless may turn into religion, and use it as their refuge..yet, need not be necessarily true in all cases.

Well, at least, not all.

False. Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Fearing the Lord includes reading HIS word and obeying HIS commandments. Everyone in all walks of life, no matter what the situation is, MUST obey this. Also, the Lord does not look at the outward appearance but what's inside a person's heart.

or maybe...

the less educated and less successful they are, the more time they have in studying the bible. and the poorer they are, the more they need hope which they get from the bible.

MOST educated and successful people have hectic schedule, they don't have time in reading the Bible... opposite for the poorer and uneducated people...

It is difficult to generalize. More educated people, particularly intellectuals find the idea of a God as absurd, in light of the fact that many of the relgious ideas, more often than not, run counter to what is proven by science, i.e. creationism vs. evolution. If you still believe that the world is created in seven days, just a few thousand years ago, then you, my friend, is one of the gullibles.

On the other hand, I very much doubt that the so-called "religious" people, mostly the less educated, have actually read the bible in all its depth and entirety. In fact, most people who are atheists, actually became atheists for sensible reasons, among which is the fact that "they have actually read" the bible.

Perhaps, most religious only have selective readings of selected passages of the bible, which bear no contradiction to their understanding of their religion, or about their belief of an omnipotent, loving, and forgiving God. But if they've read Leviticus and other books in the bible, they would discover, and perhaps ask themselves (if they are really honest) why God in the bible is an overly jealous, immature, cruel, sadistic, and murderous God.

I have told people for years you can't be a Christian if you don't have time to read the instruction manuel. You can claim it but it isn't really yours if you don't understand what God's plan is.
Many of the world's most successful people will tell you they got that way through Christian giving.
You atheist can say that life works in a circle. what you put in you get out.
Whether you believe it or not leading a Christian life will only bring you good. It's a very productive and positive way to live and the circle will be unbroken.
Yet how to live a Christian life when you never studied Christ?
It's like how can you jump up and down for your favorite singer but displays of affection for God and Christ are considered as nuts.
If you have money for the disco you certainly have the money and free time to get and read a Bible.

Poor people are humble and ignorant, So they believe in God plus the bible say something like if you're poor, you go to heaven.

the educated and successful ones are busy making money and God in their life takes a backseat. they're busy of worldly things than thinking about God. the poor ones and uneducated, on the other hand have to seek and hold on to something that can see them through each day of their lives. holding on to the whatever faith they have to survive and hoping that someday they will better their lives. but this is not always the case. there are a lot of educated people especially filipinos that are poor and their faith is strong because of their upbringing.

so the direct answer to your question is, maybe.

geegee
the good book is for everyone. but it may seem that the poor and the uneducated are more interested in the bible only bcoz they have more time. maybe they are not working and hoping to find answers to their problems in the bible. just an opinion.

Not true. Again, it depends on how interested a person is about God, about finding the truth and how to establish a good and personal relationship with the Maker. And one can do this by reading and understanding the bible; a scripture a day is substantial food for the soul.

There are evangelists or preachers who do house-to-house visits to bring the truth to the homes; not to convince or convert but to bring light into their homes. What marks the difference between the educated and the uneducated is that the former have an easy time understanding what the bible says; the latter needs more guidance, more mentoring. But even with this disparity, they both still need to be taught how to know the Lord more personally, pray effectively, and study the Scriptures with the ability to apply God's Word to their lives.

What I have noticed, however, is that the successful or the educated sometimes tend to be more critical, more doubtful or questioning of God's existence and of the truthfulness of the bible. The uneducated or the poor are of the accepting kind. They embrace God's existence fully into their hearts without question or doubt.

The authors of the Bible knew this and acknowledged it, in 1 Corinthians 3.19 it says : the wisdom of this world is foolishness in Gods sight. and 3.20 : the thoughts of the wise are futile.

Levi J
I have found that the more educated, successful people in my area tend to be in one of two categories: content and unsatisfiable. The largest difference in behaviors among these people is the content ones have a higher sense of purpose because of their relationship with God (many of whom will tell you in no uncertain words that they got where they are because of reading the Bible.)

Having grown up in an area of a lot of poverty and a certain disdain for education, I have found the same thing. Contented people tend to work to live closer to God by reading the Bible.

So, in my experience, I have not found the correlation you propose to be so black and white.

A.W.
I think very few people actually read The Bible. Many just study certain verses depending on their religious study for that week. Or, maybe some only re-read certain favorite passages occasionally. I don't really recognize any correlation between spirituality and social standing.
