Any opnion on how to eliminate poverty in the Philippines?

Have you people ever heard the phrase " rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic " ? In 1950 Phil was the richest country in all of asia and Japan was the poorest. Now it is the reverse, and it has to do with only ONE thing. And that is population. Phil is a tiny country with almost 100 million people and growing by thousands every day. How can anyone in their wildest fantasies believe any country can survive let alone thrive with that kind of a birth rate. There are simply to many people eating too small a pie. Japan on the other hand has a shrinking population and as it does the conntries per capita income grows. So if Phil is ever to shed its third world status it must seperate the church from the state as it is in EVERY first world democracy and introduce some form of government sponsered birth control for the masses and stopthe poorest of the poor from having children that will not only never escape a life of poverty but will just add to the shortages and corruption. To many starving people willing to take so little to do so much just to keep from starving only helps to keep wages going lower as more people undercut each other to get a share of the money they need to survive. Corruption also follows as people will sell their Honour,self estem,soul and even their bodys to survive in a country with so many people after so few resourses. It will only get worse as the population grows!! As long as the gov of Phil is serving the interests of the catholic church and not the people who elect it there will no chance for improvment,and that is a shame as it could be a paradise on earth if it could just shed the outdated dogma that birth control is a sin and start to move into the 21st century and not let the catholic church hold it in the 19th !!

Remove government regulation.

Let people trade and do business with one another freely.

Welcome foreign investment.

Import Lee Kwan Yee from Singapore and send home all Filipino IT proffessionals, engineers, scientists.

Then concentrate them in Davao City or Mindanao. Give them autonomy, and don't let any Filipino congressman, senator or even the president come in to that island for 10 years. It will be like hongkong after 20 years.

Start by eliminating and exposing corruption in all it's forms. That way the money that is supposed to go to infastructure projects really goes there ! The rest of the economy will follow.

You need a cival war here to change that. This place is so saturated with corruption it will take a major change by the Philippino people to change it. People power "plus" !!!

Poverty retarts the progress of the country. its good that you are thinking for the best of your nation. poverty can be eliminated if all the people will be literate as well as government should provide employment to those who are wandering in search of empoyment eventhough having qualification. most important thing is that each person like ypu should come up to help these poors and instead of spending money in vains should try to use it for the wellfare of these poors.

For a starters, minimise terrorist/crime activity.

Liberalise trade regulations
Fight corruption.

By God it won't be easy though.

Take South Korea for example:
At the end of the Korean war, their economy was in tatters but look now! The 9th largest economy int the world all thanks to a non-communistic society.

The same would've happened if South Vietnam remained a Republic. Damn communists!

get a truly working plans on employment for the people , full implementation of the law, no more sacred cows , kill and jailed all kinds of corrupt goverment officials including immediate family because they are the primary source of corruption.

Easy, eliminate the congress and the senate first off, all they do is pass laws that are never enforced anyway and are the back bone of corruption in the country. Disenfranchise voters who do not pay taxes or own property.. they are the ones who elect the movie stars and other clowns in government. As in Singapore pay government officials,police and school teachers a decent wage so they are not prone to corruption. Make anti corruption laws with teeth and enforce them.. A President who still basically walks the streets even though charged with corruption, Military men convicted of treason as Senators, Convicted rapists elected as congressmen. That is a joke and a crime against the basic hard working Filipino people. The definition of Democracy is written in many books but people in the Philippines always try to modify it to fit their own personal gain.. especially the politico's. Filipino's are very proud people and proud of there heritage, why do they let a bunch of tyrants run all over them.. the rich and wealthy do not want the common people to be educated or get out of poverty.. If the common people do the rich and wealthy lose their control and power.. Marcos had so much money he could never have dreamed of spending it. But he fought tooth and nail to stay in power for the power..Corruption was just as bad during his term, except he was the one holding the bag.. now everyone has jumped on the corruption band wagon because there is no president powerfull enough to stop it. If you tried to get some of Marco's loot you found yourself in excile or in the bottom of the Pasig. Therefore in some ways the country was much better before than now. Government seemed more efficient, the Peso was a lot stronger, people didn't have much then but that hasn't changed at all for the poor, ask them. A few hastilly built, corruption riddled housing projects for the homeless does not make a government that cares,, A few kilo's of rice and some Magi noodles is not a caring government when a natural disaster strikes. Filipino modified democracy does not work and contrary to what President Bush is always yacking about democracy is not for every country. During Lee Kwan Yew's government in Singapore it was not a real democracy.. It was a dictatorship plain and simple, but an honest one. With a rule of law and punishment for law breakers. Everyone knew if they had broken the law that they would be caught and punished. That attitude needs to propogate in the Philippines. I have heard all the speaches, seen all the television coverage that no one is above the law but how many corrupt government officials have gone to jail. In fact one of them ( an ex governor ) just got elected into congress i believe.. or was it the senate.. Hard to remember since i really don't care. He had something to do with gambling that led to the demise of the former president. I know many Filipinos and have lived in the country for over 25 years but i still can not understand how these clowns can get elected .. Have you heard the campain speaches,, i want to serve the people.. WHAT?????? then they gun down their rivals.. That is a people with a real "pride streak" to kill your rivals so you can "serve" the electorate. What is next....?????

first the system should be change, voting system should be change and people who will run as gov official say Congressman and Senator should be change not only can read and write according to the constitution but people who graduate from political studies, law, MA, MBA, economics etc. so that people wholl run the country are not dumb, also education should be uplift. one person could not change the whole country but one person could amke a difference if poeple will go together holding hands embracing change im sure everyting will be alright....
