Ok, get it from the pro- the local who actually lives there!
1. Sentosa- the fabulous off-shore island accessible by cable car (fabulous view) or bus. The monorail system is currently down, and you can get around on the bus lines (colour-coded). There you can find attractions like Fort Siloso (for history buffs, Jap. Occupation/ WWII), Underwater World and Dolphin Lagoon (linked), Butterfly Kingdom and the many beaches. The price for the bus/ entry is paid separately. And I don't think it's S$1, probably S$2. There are 6 resorts, the best being Rasa Sentosa Resort. 2 more resorts available from 2008.
http://www.sentosa.com.sg
2. Land accomodation include the famous Raffles Hotel, Orchard Hotel, Swissotel the Stamford, The Fullerton, Holiday Inn, etc. Most are located in the city centre (note: Orchard/Somerset/City Hall/Raffles Place).
3. Shopping! Singaporeans (like myself), love to shop. Electronics: Sim Lim Square
Shopping Malls (mostly for locals): Heartland Mall (Kovan), Tampines Mall/ Century Square (Tampines), Northpoint (Yishun), Compasspoint
Tourist Malls (generally bigger): Takashimaya at Ngee Ann City, Paragon (Orchard), ViVoCity (must visit! located at Harbourfront, near the Sentosa bus service)
http://www.vivocity.com.sg
4. Don't chew gum.
5. Don't litter.
6. Ask for directions from those who look willing to help (or understand the language you're talking in).
7. Familiarise yourself with the transport system:
a) Bus- more prominent buses: number 8, 65, CityBuzz
http://www.sbstransit.com.sg
b) MRT- Mass Rapid Transit, aka the train. Green Line goes from Marina Bay to Pasir Ris/Changi Airport, Red Line, Purple Line, etc. Places you should know: Orchard, Somerset, City Hall, Changi Airport, Raffles Place
c) Taxi.
d) Note: All transport services (except c))require an EZ-Link card, or else you can purchase a Standard Ticket at MRT stations ($1 deposit refund available- don't forget!) or pay bus services by coins (55cents, I think. $1 for CityBuzz).
8. Get yourself one of those brochures from Changi Airport (or 10), they have all the information you need to visit tourist attractions. E.g. Botanical Gardens, Mandai Zoo, Bird Park
:) Enjoy your stay if you come! |

I went there in November last year and I loved it. Like people say its wonderfully clean and tidy, but I think the whole fine thing is over exaggerated a bit. I used the MRT to go everywhere and it was fantastic, the trains come all the time and they are nice and clean and don't smell horrible like the public transport I have hear in Melbourne plus they run on time. So use it.
I went shopping a lot (after a while it feels like that is all they do in Singapore, seeing as there are so many shopping centres, my favourite was sim lim square (not sim lim tower), my boyfriend and I went crazy buying laptops, mp3 players and a bunch of other things, but you have to be careful and shop around there first and make sure you get warranty as well, most places aren't certified.
I definately enjoyed my singapore sling at Raffles, actually I had two in a bar where we sat down and ate all their peanuts for a couple of hours, great fun and very beautiful.
I went to the bird park which was good, however I felt exhasted by the time we got around it, it was very hot the day we went. It's easy to get to just take the train and there is a connecting bus just outside the station. I was very upset that I missed the night safari which is meant to be great, unfortunatly I ran out of time, but plan to go their next time.
I thought Sentosa was alright but I wouldn't go back, although I did enjoy the sky tower, we had some great views from there, the cable car was fun and the Merlion looked pretty at night. They are meant to be building a casino there to, the first one in the country.
I checked out little India, but it freaked me out with all the lady boys their.
Circular Quay is great place to go to at night for a drink and maybe a boat ride as well.
China town is nice to visit for some cheap shopping, cheap food and maybe a trishaw ride.
For accomodation I would recommened staying where you think you would be spending most time and work it out from there.
If you have any moer questions just ask
Hope you have a fun trip :) |

I've been to singapore many times in my life. I love it there!!!
But they have very strik laws there. The most commen are you're NOT suppose to cew gum , you're NOT suppose to litter on the floor and if you broke any of these laws , you will have to pay a HUGE AMOUNT of money or clean the streets wearing a uniform saying " I am a CRIMINAL".
But I love it there , really.
So here's a list of hotels and things you can do there:
Hotels
1) Mariet
2) Holiday Inn
3)and there's SANTOSA !! It's really Beautiful , you only have to pay $1 SING DOLLAR to enter and its worth it. But there's only one hotel there but I forgot the name of it, SORRY. But the hotel is beautiful ! The hotel room is facning the ocean. |
