Hangover Remedies
Most hangover "remedies" simply attend to one or more of the symptoms and don't really provide a cure as such. The hangover won't stop until the alcohol is out of your system, but here's a few things that will ease the suffering a bit:
Berocca - Puts the vitamin B back in, as well as the big glass of water it's mixed with. It's probably best to do this before you go out.
Coke - Fizz for the nausea, liquid for the dehydration, and a caffeine and sugar hit to make you feel a bit more lively.
Ginseng - It's been noted that since caffeine is a diuretic like alcohol, it can actually make the dehydration worse, so try the herbal equivalent instead.
Vegemite On Toast - Something in your stomach is good, and salty is even better. Plus you get a Vitamin B top up. The same reasons also make peanut butter a good choice, but the oily nature might make some sensitive stomachs feel a bit yucky. If you do try try this one, skip the butter and just have dry toast.
Cold Pizza - Who knows, but it seems to work.
Asprin - Simply attends to the headache and does nothing for the level of alcohol in your system. Don't take them before you go to bed.
Bananas - Sugar in the form of fructose, and potassium, which is one of the things you lose lots of when you drink. Bananas are also a natural antacid to help with the nausea, and are high in magnesium which can help relax those pounding blood vessels causing that hangover headache.
For a variety of reasons try a peanut butter, honey and banana sandwich on white bread.
Vitamin C - Another thing the alcohol takes out that you're advised to put back in as soon as possible. Orange juice, tomato, a 600mg Vitamin C tablet - doesn't matter, just do it.
A Hot Bath - The heat will sweat out the toxins that are causing all the problems. You'll feel a bit woozy at first but go with it and you'll feel better afterwards.
Chocolate Milk - This one was sent in by Michael and sounds like it's worth a try - "Regarding your hangover remedies, I would like to suggest chocolate milk. The store bought kind seems to work best, due to ease of attainment (unless you blew all your money at the bar hoping to get lucky), quietness (no loud banging of the teaspoon trying to mix the homemade stuff), and ease of use (the opening is the perfect fit when you have the jitters and no messy clean up). The suggested minimum dosage is the pint ( 1/2 litre) size, though the new quart (litre) can be used for extreme episodes. Other than the rehydration factor, I find that chocolate milk offers the tummy a soothing coating for the nausea. It also repletes some of the vitamins your body is now woefully lacking. The sugars (lactose & sucrose) and salt seem to be the perfect balance of the carb/salt fix. Many women can attest to the beneficial, relatively inexpensive, and legal effects of chocolate against depression, whether physiological or psychological. Last, the flavor seems to do wonders for that ghastly "did I try to mop the floor with my tongue?" taste in your mouth. So, on your way home, stop by your convenient convenience store, head on over to the cooler, grab one more "cold one" (chocolate milk, that is), and bring it home for the morning. Your mother shall compliment you on at least one healthy drinking habit."
The symptoms you're feeling post-drinking are signs of dehydration caused by the alcohol. That's why you must rehydrate yourself by drinking a lot of water when you get up.
Rehydrating your body is the key to recovering from the hangover, and this cannot be stressed enough. You can even put some lemon in your water, it'll help soothe your stomach and will add vitamin C.
When drinking water, avoid water that is extremely cold or hot; drink water at room temperature.
coffee
Even though you're extremely tired and a cup of coffee seems like the best way to wake you up, try to stay away from it. Caffeine will only dehydrate you more, and since it's also a diuretic, it will not help your stomach. Milk and other dairy products are also not a good idea; they may make you feel more queasy.
ginger ale
If you don't want to drink water, try a glass of flat ginger ale, which helps soothe your stomach.
juice
Juice is also a good idea; vitamin C will help give you the energy you'll need.
obey your thirst
Sports drinks such as Gatorade have been known to work for some people.
feels like honey
Have some tablespoons of plain honey, or add some honey to your water or cup of tea. It'll help soothe the dryness in your throat.
make a toast
After drinking to just about every toast that could be made the night before, some slices of plain toast could be a good idea - avoid putting jam or butter on them.
fruity fixes
Eating some fruit is also a good idea. It'll be refreshing and give you the vitamins and energy you'll need to replenish your body.
pills
Have an over-the-counter painkiller such as aspirin or ibuprofen, to help ease the headache. Do Not have acetaminophen-based pills; these can be dangerous when mixed with the alcohol in your system. Take the pills in the morning, not before going to bed when the alcohol is still prominent in your system.
sleep
Either sleep in, or wake up and take any of the above-mentioned measures and go back to bed. This is assuming, of course, that you have the luxury of sleeping in for that particular day.
wash cloth
Another effective way to alleviate the pain is to lie in a dark room, with a cool compress on your head. Remember that these are all ways to alleviate the symptoms usually associated with a hangover. If there seems to be a more serious problem as a result of alcohol consumption, go to a doctor.
These are things that have been known to help treat that dreaded feeling that comes after a night of drinking and partying. They all work differently for everyone, and you may discover your own method to help you overcome a hangover.
Enjoy the night, know your limits, and if you have one drink too many, you may want to try these quick remedies so that you don't end up staring at ceramic all day long. |

LOTS of water, LOTS of FRUIT JUICE ( more Fruit Juice than water if you can keep it down), 2 to 3 adult aspirin (no more than that -- follow the directions on the bottle -- MORE than 3 tablets per dose will NOT "work better" -- it will only be very hard on your LIVER, which is already overworked from the ALCOHOL !!!! ), if you have a doctor who'll give you a REAL PAIN PILL all the better (make sure he gives you something WITHOUT TYLENOL in it, as TYLENOL is EXTREMELY HARMFUL to the LIVER when used after consuming ALCOHOL -- NOT ALL DOCTORS are AWARE of THAT !!! So tell him : NOTHING WITH TYLENOL PLEASE !!! Emperine #3 would be good or #4 if possible) & skip the aspirin if your doctor prescribes a stronger pain medication!!! Your doctor may help you if this is a one-time thing, but he won't do it on a regular basis!!! SO STOP GETTING DRUNK if you are doing this regularly!!! You are slowly: KILLING YOURSELF !!!!! You will either die of cirosis of the liver or a car wreck (2 - most likely senerios!).
If you enjoy Saturday Night Partying, then do this: order a glass of water with every drink and do not drink another alcoholic drink until you have finished all the water. Dance a lot! Best of all, tell your waitress what YOU will be drinking, have her tell the bartender to make your drinks "LIGHT" (with less alcohol than usually used) and tell her to bring you a full 8-ounce glass of water between drinks all night & not to vary from your "sober" instructions later (no matter how much you beg!!!), ask her if she will be your waitress all evening & if so give her a large tip before you get your 1st drink! (If you'll be spending $25, give her $10 to take care of you for the evening, if you'll be spending $40, give her $15, & so on up to say a $25 tip -- $10 to $25 is pretty cheap to keep you alive!!! You could also give her your keys or give them to the manager or owner when you come in & if you do get drunk they'll keep your keys til the next day & call you a cab !!!) . If you'll have 2 waitresses then tell them both what you need and split the tip among them!!! And tell them to make sure the bar-tender knows you are on a water-alcohol-water-alcohol agenda to keep you having fun, but staying sober or at least not so drunk you end up with a hangover!!! Most Bars & Waitresses will be happy to do this as they want customers safe and fairly sober too ! They also dont want drunks leaving their bars and killing people !!!!!
It worked well for me back in the day !!! I got NO MORE HANG-OVERS, NO DUIs, NO CANCELLED INSURANCE, AND NO TERRIBLE REGRETS !!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

1) Drink a lot of carbonated drinks, eg. Coke or Sprite to recover from dehydration. Then go pee or ****, the alcoholic toxin will come out and you will feel more conscious.
2) Later drink green tea to regain your full consciousness |

Eh, there's not much you can really do once you already have one - unless you can stomach some ibuprofen. A lot of people don't realize the hangover effect you get is from dehydration. If you drink water while drinking alcohol you can prevent it. For right now, drink water continually throughout the day/night and you'll feel better in no time. |

Lots of water the night before. Tea helps but also drinking the same drink you had the previous night. Hangovers are partly caused by withdrawal from alcohol. |

hair of the dog...vodka and tomatoe juice as the last drink of the evening and then go home and take two alka seltzer. My fiance' swears by it. I go home and take a jello gelatin mix it in 12 ounces of water and take two tylenol. Same effect, buffers the stomach and rids the headache. If you have congestion (like i do with drinking) get some sudafed too. |
