Yes , I have noticed myself when I'm in a public restroom. In my opinion I think its strange to see men so conscious about their looks like women. I thought that was a female trait. All I need to do is take a quick glance of myself for 2 seconds and move on.
I don't know why they are like that. My culture and background is different.
The way I see it,men don't wear make up and their natural masculine features should naturally draw women who are attracted to them.
My opinion. |

we are not TOO conscious about our looks.
we are purposely looking at your car windows to annoy you people of other nationalities because we're perplexed at how you keep staying here in our country while you're sweepingly judging us from all angles of our unique culture.
go home and take your mcdo and/or shawarmas and/or hopia with you. |

YES!!! YES!!! YES!!!
You're getting all of these answers like "Oh well everyone is like that, bla, bla, bla...
Filipinos are the WORST about hanging out in front of the mirror "primping and pruning" They are obsessed with it!
Go to the rest room (CR for you pinoys) in any mall in the Philippines, any time day or night, and there will be 100 guys, spending a full 5 minutes each, in front of the mirror. I am not exaggerating.
I had 10 Filipinos working for me on a job in the Mid East, and every time I wasn't on the forklift one of the Filipino guys would get on it and just sit there. They would take turns doing it. On days that we didn't have any material to move, there would be a Filipino just sitting on the machine, ALL DAY LONG.
I thought they were "play driving" the machine.
Every time I'd get back on to move material I'd have to run a Filipino off of it, and readjust the 3 mirrors.
After a while this pi$$ed me off, because if you're only play driving you really don't need the mirrors and it was a waste of my time to have to keep readjusting them.
I laid down the law one day: If you get on the fork lift you are forbidden to readjust the mirrors unless you have a forkift license and you will be driving it.
After that I noticed NO ONE would sit on the fork lift.
Now, me and my guys were pretty cool with each other, and I wasn't an ogre toward them, we were coworkers and friends.
The next day I told the guys, "Hey fellas, I didn't say you can't sit on the fork lift. I only do not like having the mirrors readjusted by people that are not operating the machine. It's fine for you to sit there if you want to"
Still no one would sit on the fork lift.
Afraid that I may have insulted them or upset them, I finally asked the oldest of my guys "Why won't anyone sit on the forklift?" He said "It's the mirrors sir."
I said "I'm not mad at anyone about the mirrors, I just do not like non-operators always putting them out of adjustment"
He said "we know you're not mad at us, but the reason we sit on the forklift is so we can look at the mirrors"
I was completely perplexed by now so I asked "Look at the mirrors?" He said "Yes sir" I asked "what is behind you that is so interesting?"
He didn't understand, so I said "here, sit on the forklift and show me what you guys are looking at with the mirrors and why"
He jumped on the machine and readjusted all 3 mirrors just right.
I still couldn't figure out what he was looking at with those mirrors so I told him to get down so I could see.
I climbed on the machine, looked in the mirrors, and low and behold what did I see?
I saw myself, perfectly framed, in all 3 mirrors...
That is how Filipinos are when a reflective surface is close by... |

To say that Filipinos are too conscious about their looks is a sweeping statement. Consciousness about looks is UNIVERSAL. This behavior / behaviour happens everywhere. In any country, there are people who may be overly or moderately conscious of their looks. "That's the way the cookie crumbles". |

He never looks like an idiot. He came from the Malay race--this is a stock of rulers and Kings and chieftains. The one you are referring to may have been borne out of that familiarity with the people in the car he is in and he is checking himself out since his immediate significant others by his side are all looking good and prim and proper and demure. He hates to be insulted. Who wants too? |

I always find it ironic that filipinos are always concerned about their looks and clean clothes but at the same time will throw trash on the streets without a second thought!?! |

All Asians are like that. Pressures from mass media forces Asians to go for that clean, cute look, and this is not limited only to women - Asian countries such as China, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore probably has one of the world's largest metrosexual men population, as many as France and Italy. |

Let's just say we're conscious of our personal grooming. We want to be personable at all times.
Seriously, your question makes me think that you are not very observant, my dear fellow. You didn't notice that kind of behavior from other nationalities? C'mon now, you must be looking only at Filipinos or at some other nationalities that you wrongly assumed are Filipinos! |

I think this is universal.
But what's common among Filipinos they are brand conscious. most of them are observant to the label of your stuff.
many of them noticed right away if you wear something new or new style or have new haircut etc
some would ask where you got it or the very silly question how much? |

It must be the "too" preceding "conscious".
Yes, we Pinoys are conscious, and that is a positive thing. That is an extension of our consciousness about good grooming. That is why we take a bath at least once a day, sometimes twice or more. We do not rely on cologne or perfume to make us smell good - - - we want to smell good by being clean and hygienic. We brush our teeth three times a day.
Oh, I am sorry you think that the Pinoy looking at the mirror form someone's car looks like an idiot. At least, that Pinoy was just looking at himself, and was not a voyeur trying to see what the people inside the car were doing.
If you have traveled enough, maybe you would have observed the same behavior in other countries, as I have. maybe not in the same degree that we Pinoys do it. But then that is because we are probably more concerned about our hygiene, and our looks, versus other nationalities. Even if only to some degree. |
