Hah! Here we go again! Who the hell invented the term "pacific islander" anyway?? All I know is that the Philippines is part of the continent of Asia and is a founding member of the ASEAN. Therefore, ALL natural born Filipinos, regardless of ethnicity, are Asians.
If we are to use "pacific islander" we might as well call Europeans and Americans "continental dwellers". No offense. |

Excuse me while I laugh.
Lets speak for the Philippines as a whole.
We are ASIAN! Do you understand? ASIAN! The only reason why your hearing this pacific islander bullshit is because uneducated Fil-Ams are confused about their race. We are geographically located in ASIA making us ASIAN. Pacific Islands consist of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia and the Philippines does NOT fall under any of those categories. Taiwan, the South China Sea Islands, most of the islands of Indonesia, and Japan are ALL in the Pacific Ocean but are obviously not considered Pacific Islanders. Therefore, Filipinos are Asian. The United States Bureau even considers the Philippines as Asian. Culture has nothing to do with being Asian and looks have nothing to do with being Asians. It all matters where the country is located. |

I agree with Dubbs. Ilocanos and Cebuanos are Filipinos.
Filipinos are Asians. How would you classify the Pacific Islanders if we were to follow the conventional 7 continents?
Check this out:

Wikipedia.org - Continents Defined
Even if the Philippines lies at the western end of the Pacific Ocean, we are so very different from the Pacific Islanders. We are more Malayan in stature and culture with bits of this and that.
Pacific Islanders are aware of the Philippines. There is even quite a Filipino community in Fiji. You will find a Pinoy Food stall in the Main mall in Suva, capital of Fiji.
Trivia: Do you know that the Fijians and Solomon Island people are fans of Filipino soaps? They kept telling me Gulong ng Palad is so good but just like some Pinoys, those in the city who are a bit of the upper crust are not fond of soaps. |

I'm not sure anymore. Whenever I say I'm from the Bicol Region, many Pinoys get their mouths open as if to say, "where's that"? When I identify my province, they act as if they still didn't get it........ lol.... |

"Oh, that this too, too solid flesh would melt ...."
But that is rather novel today. "Isanders", like "is UNDER".
Ok. I daresay being "under d saya" may apply whatever regional affiliation someone has. Therefore, they are ALL Pacific "is under". |

Neither. They are Marcosians. The Cebuanos are Osmeñians, soon to be Garcians if the present political scene changes.
I hope I have answered your question. :) |
