Filipinos are Asians. The Philippines' geograsphical location is near that of China, Taiwan, North and South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, among others.

We consider ourselves Asian and not Pacific Islanders. Our ancestors came mostly from mainland Asia, i.e. the Malays, Indonesians and Chinese. Pacific Islanders refer to countries in the Pacific Basin, the Polynesians, Micronesians, Melanesians and Samoans. Hawaiians & Guamanians are also considered as Pacific Islanders.

Ask someone on the street, most probably they don't know who are the Pacific Islanders.

Philippines is a member of the ASEAN or Association of SouthEast Asian Nation. Isn't that enough?

Technically speaking, the ancestry of the Philippines would include European Hispanic, Asian and Pacific Islander cultures. Their site location would make it an Asian country.

Filipinos are Asians and NOT Pacific Islanders. Philippines only borders the Pacific Ocean but it is NOT located within the Pacific itself.
