Pacific Islanders are Samoans, Fijians, etc.

the phillipines are southeast Asia. I would say the phillipines are more so though because of their location. pacific islands are hawaii, guam etc..

I am a filipino and this is the 1st time I heard that we are being considered a pacific islanders. Through out my life I know I am asian.

Since we are also an island on the very edge of pacific ocean, I guess I wouldn't mind being called a pacific islander.

I am a Filipino. I am an Asian. The Philippines is in Asia, one among the World's Continent. That's a perfect answer, I can say.

Pacific Islanders? Well, I haven't bumped into it, but learning from others who have answered already your question, now I know that Fiji and Hawaii are best examples.

What I've known is that Philippines is an archipelago. Archipelago simply means a group of islands.

although if you see in the map, the Philippines is distributed throughout the pacific ocean, and you may say that Filipinos are to be considered pacific Islanders...

but not! geographically speaking and racially speaking, we Filipinos are considered Asians...

though, culturally, we are sometimes considered westernized...

This was already asked a few weeks ako. If you cant find the previous question, wikipedia has a comprehensive description of a pacific islander and based on that, Filipinos are not pacific islanders.

To those who consider Filipino's to be Pacific Islanders 0bviously haven't seen a Pacific Islander in their lives.
The majority of Pacific Islanders, women included, resemble sumo wrestlers in physical build, do Filipino's resemble sumo wrestlers, I think not. The majority of Filipino's have the same physical build as their Chinese cousins.

I dare you to claim this in front of a real Pacific Islander and I bet you they will laugh at your face... because you are NOT Pacific Islanders. Please stop spreading these lies because other stupid Filipinos believe you. Filipinos, who know our history, ancestors and heritage have to undo this stupid claim over and over again. Do you mean that as a race or as a category here? Technically majority of the filipinos are from the Malay race with a small population of natives (Badjao Aeta etc) and a lot of mixed races (Spanish, American, Japanese & Chinese).

but are u talking about race? if Filipinos are Asians in terms of race, then yes, because our Ancestors were originally from Malaysia. Remember? Aeta, Indones, and Malays?

about Pac. Islanders in terms of race? does our culture align in such a way with Pacific Island culture? do we have like those tiki thingys? we look far from them...

however, just like USA, Philippines is like a Melting pot too, it's just that Whites and Blacks are too small.

3. Check out our food! aren't they asian? with disregard to hispanic food?

like are you familiar with Pangea? like before, the world used to be a one Giant continent? well, it divided into different giant continents, and it just happened that the Philippine islands were a part of the Asian continent!

OKay, I'm not sure where to start here. Is this a big issue? Are filipinos considered Asian or Polynesian lets seee. First people who settled in the Philippines, i hear that they were from Africa, madagascar, melanesian then India, then malaysia (light skinned?) Chinese went there also and the spanish and the americans and japanese sooooo. First of all we are part of all these but we are considered ASIAN because we are in SouthEastAsia
We are mixed. If you study each filipino closely, you'll probably see one of these features. I was mistaken for hawaiian first time i went there, native american i never got that before ha ha cuz i met one, part chinese and mexican. I'm darked skinned thats why. However we are considered Asian. We are mixed. Im not sure if i got the chain of migrations right. Correct me if im wrong Nag Di dos Ka!! Puntong ena Mo!!

we're in asia, which makes us asians. we're islands in the pacific, which makes us pacific islanders. i don't understand why anyone would say any different. who gets to choose which countries get the red light to be called 'asian.' if a country is in asia, isn't it asian? is to be asian only to have squinty eyes and eat with chopsticks? no. same thing with pacific islanders.
