Absolutely. Even the most "accomplished" internet warrior will be shocked upon coming to Japan. Porno is set right next to the comicbooks in most stores. Of course it is censored (certain areas of the body), but the actual acts and conditions obviously can not be blurred or blacked out. The fetishes range from the normal to stuff so odd that you can only imagine what kind of person came up with it.

I have had some of my middle school students ask me really perverted things before. Perhaps this is because they can't ask their Japanese teachers, or they just think that foreigners are open about that type of thing. Either way, given the chance, many Japanese can be extremely perverted.

Supposedly, Shinto and Buddhism didn't have teachings about morals concerning sex. The invasion of white people and Christianity introduced that. There is a shame aspect to sex these days, which doesn't mix well with Japan's traditionally views on sex being a fairly acceptable practice.

Believe me... the whole shame thing is used to the extreme here and Japanese guys love it. Apparently all Japanese women hate sex and have to be forced into it.
